Learning how to say goodbye

How do you say goodbye to a friend
When things between you two are coming to an end?
Never thought this would come to be
With such a great friend, who cared, for someone like me.
Now as we stand to say our goodbyes
I sense the tears wanting to come to our eyes.
Yet still strong we stand as we face each other and this day
Knowing that this will end and we will part our ways.
With one last hug and a smile from me
You do the same then turn, walking away forever from me.
You'll always be inside my heart, my friend, that will remain ever true.
And I shall never come to forgetting you, knowing that you might come to forget me.
