I'm thinking about building my own computer and I was wondering if any1 has used a comp with an AMD athlon 64 procesor. I was thinking of getting one of these puppies, but I have never used an athlon before and was wondering how good they really are.

they're as good as their intel's brother (only cheaper...) and you or your software wont notice a difference... they work on both....

(and some technical stuff... like intels is using AMD-technology for their 64 -bits processor's... but that's not interesting....)

I was sure Athon were better than Intel ... musta been wrong. >.<

But yeah, if they are the same like Alexamderpas says, then you might as well get it ...

... and seeing as the name rocks more than Intel, another bonus! ;)

you guys know if there are any problems with them or anything? I dont want to buy a crappy proccessor if im gonna invest $450 to build this thing.

Nah, I had one for about 2 years and I never once had any problems with it.

If you ask me you would be doing the right thing getting an Athlon Processor, they are decent.

it's intel that's having the problems, and yes... AMD's are better....

Try using the Athlon - its really good. I've built my own computer and am using AMD Athlon64 FX-60 DualCore S939, which is a bit expensive (around 2200$) but its worth it in the long term as you wont need to upgrade your CPU for a few years..

this is a question I've been wondering...

If I use an AMD Athlon 3200+ 64 with 32 bit windows on it, will it work faster than an AMD Athlon 3200 (a 32 bit one) bit processor?

I think you need a 64 bit version of windows to see any difference, although I might be wrong..

see, thats what I was thinking

While you've got all that extra power without a 64 bit windows no code will take advantage of that

AND even at that most things run through a convertor because the rest of the programming world hasn't yet caught up to the 64 bit genre, so the only thing that will run any faster is windows itself as any other program will be running in 32 bit.
