Recently PlayOnline opened their website where users can sign in for beta testing on the Xbox 360. A Xbox Live account is required to register. Players from Japan, North America and Europe can participate.
In the beta version some features will not be available, like font and characters specific for the European region, USB peripherals (excluding the USB keyboard and mouse) and wireless LAN adapter compatibility.
Xbox 360 players will play on a stand-alone server during the beta, so not with PC and PS2 players. After the beta players will join the PC and PS2 players.
So, if you wanna participate in the beta test, get the February issue of Official Xbox Magazine which will be released on January 17th.

Is there a beta test on the PS2 aswell or only on the Xbox 360? (not meaning I am going to try it out since well for one I don't have an Xbox 360 nor PS2 xP just curious is all). I don't see why they even bothered putting FFXI on any console - because like it'd be kinda hard to control everything (even though they have Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on consoles and my friend said it was pretty easy to control and get used to xP) I guess =/ But like I guess most people will just use the keyboard/mouse thing lol.
Playsation 2 server is already up, ive played with people on it. They said its easier than using a PC
Less buttons to deal with I guess. I know I prefer to play PS games on the PS.
I can't wait till the PC version gets the 720p HD update, that'll be lush as feck ^^

(not meaning I am going to try it out since well for one I don't have an Xbox 360 nor PS2 xP just curious is all).Final Fantasy XI has not been released on PS2 in Europe or Australia. I think it never will too, since network gaming on PS2 didn't really been a hit here.
I don't think the PS2 Live feature was ever much of a hit, I mean i'm not saying that no one plays it - i'm pretty many people do in the US, but compared to Xbox Live (like it has better features and everything).... yeah lol. And can you talk to the people playing FFXI using a PS2 say if you were using a PC? Though it'd be hard to talk wouldn't it? I mean how would you chat other than a headset (like imagine saying "WTS blah blah bow +10 armor, +10 Mana (whatever i'm just saying anything xD) for 100g" lol).
Sorry for the double post but I heard that you will be able to play with the other PS2 and PC players (on another Xbox/Xbox 360 forum where they were talking about FFXI and one guy said (as a good point for the game) that you could also play with the other PS2 and PC players, anyone know if this is true? Maybe it's just for the USA server or liek maybe it's after the beta - I dunno but this is what I heard. (if so then i'm definately gettin' it and then i'll play with you guys ;) cause my PC sucks liek hell so mega lag lol and maybe i'll just buy a USB keyboard (already have mouse) to make life easier too lol).

Well, after the beta the players will play together with the PS2 and PC players. It's only during the beta that they won't. *edits news post*

if only i had a 360... (damn you microsoft >.<)
I'm getting the game either way, even if i dont have a 360 by the time the game's released. I was gonna get it on PS2, but they dont make it anymore so now it's an "ultra-rare" game here.

EU, NA and JP servers are all one and the same. except for Tetra Master. that's got an English server and a Japanese server.

Well in Zidane's post it says that, but it's only going to be for the beta and not for the awhole thing xP. So yeah, when or rather if I get a Xbox 360, i'm definately gonna get FFXI (and apparently the first three months are free?).

it is actually a whole lot easier to play on ps2 than it is on pc imo

The XBox360 Beta server is called Hydra, if anyones interested, whether they keep it, let Xbox plays join PS2 and PC servers and remove Hyrdra or just incorporate Hydra into the server list avaliable to PC and PS2 players remains to be seen though.
^ The Xbox 360 players being on a stand-alone server is only temporarily. When the actual game is released, 360 players will be able to play with the other PS2 and PC players (this is what someone told me, so i'm not 100% sure on this).

Just wondering whether they'd do away with Hydra server or just incorporate it into the current server list (some of which are getting a little on the overcrowded side o.O Server migration soon I hope)
