Does anyone know a good Content Management System I could use for a local website? It's a website about a scoutsgroup I'm a member of.
For people who don't know what I'm talking about: A Content Management System (CMS) is a web-based program where people with no tech experience can easy add or edit content.
Programs I tried are:
Mambo (I should take Joomla instead)
Drupal
I like Mambo/Joomla more, because it has a beter looking admin interface and Drupal looks kinda plain.
The only one I can think of would be PHPNUKE ... but I get the feeling its not very liked ...
Apart from that nothing really springs to mind apart from Mambo, which you have already tried.

hehe, drupal, plain and simple... at first sight...
phpnuke... it's exploded in filesize...
mambo/joombla... hmm.... if they only not had internal affairs...
anyways... i'll go from mambo to drupal... and the load of availble and USABLE plugins is big!

Think I'll choose Joomla. I've just tested it and it works the same as Mambo. What a pain is of this system is with the installation a lot of things are not needed, like the default news items, links etc. So, I have to delete all those things...

Haha, phpnuke's source is a mess. e107 (or something like that) is another cms. But the best i can think of are mambo and zwobbel-cms (which is still in the making but has great options). Avot cms is also great but has a closed-source. The good thing about it is you can buy the extra's you like and you don't have to pay for things you don't need.
But, i keep with writing it myself.

Land Down Under (http://www.neocrome.net/) is another one you could try.

Well, it's or Joomla or Drupal. I'm gonna look into Drupal, thanks to alex for telling and showing me about the things it can do.
If you're willing to put some cash in it, I strongly suggest SubDreamer. It's one of the best paid CMS with alot of plugins available to download and nice themes ( although I doubt you need those ).
URL : SubDreamer (http://www.subdreamer.com/)
Price : 125$ a license.
1. How long does a Subdreamer Pro license last?
Forever. Purchasing a Subdreamer Pro license will allow you to run the Subdreamer Pro software on 1 website (1 installation) forever.
2. How can I download skins, plugins, and Subdreamer Pro Updates?
Purchasing your first Subdreamer Pro license will give your account a free 1 Year of Downloads and Support. The 1 Year of Downloads and Support will allow you to download skins, plugins, Subdreamer Pro updates, as well as give you 1 Year of access to the support desk.
3. Does each license come with a free 1 Year of Downloads and Support?
No, only your first license will come with the free 1 Year of Downloads and Support.
4. Can I use my 1 Year of Downloads and Support for all of my license?
Yes, your 1 Year of Downloads and Support will be applied to each and every license you purchase. Meaning you will be able to download skins, plugins, Subdreamer updates and use them for all of your licenses.
You can also look for vgPortal, which is a nice CMS made especially for video game sites ( hence the "vg" ). Haven't tried that one though.
URL : vgPortal (http://vgprojects.com/)
Price : 110$ for a year.
How much does VGPortal cost?
VGportal costs 110$ for a 1 year subscription. This subscription gives you access to our subscriber's forum where you can download new content and VGPortal itself.
Does VGPortal include a front end?
Yes, VGPortal includes a completely customizeable front end with a simple to use template system.
Is VGPortal encrypted?
Yes, but not all of it. Almost 99% of it remains open source which means you are free to modify it and create your own modules. You will need to upload a folder that allows you to run the encrypted files.
What forms of payment do you accept?
At the moment we only accept Paypal payments.
What do I need to run VGPortal?
To run VGPortal you will need a webserver, MYSQL 4 or higher and PHP 4 or higher. Contact your host for information on your MYSQL version and PHP version.
What happens when my subscription runs out?
You will continue to be able to run VGPortal on your registered domain. Remebmer only 1 domain name. However you will lose access to all new versions of VGPortal and the subscrbier's forum itself.
You can always re-new your license for 80$ or 30$ off it's current value.
You can try SubDreamer light for free I think. I've used SD and it's pretty good. As for vgPortal, who knows...

Right, I can't make one and I can't afford to buy one, since there are many free ones. I'll look into more systems later.
I have used both Mambo and Postnuke. I find that Mambo is a little bit more mature but Postnuke has more features and will probably end up being better because of more support.

add the maturity of mambo and mature some more, add the support of drupal and add some more, add a GNU/GPL license, and voila.... you've got DRUPAL, 5 years of quality!

Well, I'm gonna use Drupal. I've installed it this server to test it more. Luckely all the modules are translated into Dutch. So far so good.

I'm almost done with the layout for the new Drupal website I'm making for a Scoutsgroup I'm a member off. I only have to make it Firefox compatible, and that's a pain... >.<
