View Full Version : Spam and flaming!
Heya. Just started my own forums and got a load of ****tards spamming and flaming. So now our site gets blocked from our school filters on the "offensive material" list.
Any good methods of keeping these losers away I might be able to use? I'd love to ban IP addys but unfortunatly they're using a school network, so that doesn't work.
Appreciate any help you can give.
Are they from your school? If not, who cares if you ban their school network? xD As long as they stop bothering you. And if they are, well...dang. :x You try banning their email addresses?
Yup! Unfortunatly then sign up with things like "lalalalalalala@hotmail.com" which sux majorly! And yeah they're from my school, so I don't wanna ban the IP! Argh!
Man, I'm glad we don't get as much of that on HHN.

try an annoyance script... set upon your school ip and exluding the good users...
Lukeman, I've set it up so we have to validate users before they can post, so hopefully once they discover they've signed up but can't post, they'll give up...

Well, I also run my own boards. I used to get the same damn things. I would suggest finding the "****tards" as you put it, and Beating the snot out of them! mwhaha!..
okay.. well.. :-p
what I did was Warned them. or even Banned their Names. but if they dont leave you alone. Delete their names so they have to rejoin, and you can Validate members like the above poster said. :)
Yeah, thanks everyone!
I gave Sprog there admin status for a bit to help me find a solution, and he came across that feature.
So now, whenever someone registers, I get an email informing me of this. I then look at their profile and see if they're likely to be a legitimate poster (ie. a real e-mail addy rather than "jajajaja@hotmail.com") or a spammer. I then have to click a link to activate them, otherwise I just delete the e-mail and they are unable to post.
SUCCESS! Thanks again for all your help, and I think I'll try the snot-beating well as well! :D
Ill join you! i love beating spammers and flammers. XD or i sell you several secret weapons that are hidden in my trench coat at the cost of $0.00 USD. :D
(too bad thats illegal and i dont actually have secret weapons, much less any weapons at all.) :(

Yeah, the best way to avoid this type of problem is setting up the validation, and setting it so that the same email address cannot be used more than once, so that they cannot use the same one repeatedly. Then, it'd also be a good thing to set up a few global/super mods who have access to lock accounts, so if they catch someone doing something bad before you, they can prevent the person from doing any further damage.
But, since you've solved your issue, I'll close this now. :)
