Well, myself, I found much of the story badly written, the attempt at a more realistic visual rather feeble, I hated the idea that I couldn't get money by killing stuff as in every other FF game... the list goes on

FFVIII was ok. I didn't mind it. I found the story ok, but the battle system was what I really didn't care for. I found myself relying way to much on GF's.
On another note, do you acually know Al Bhed off by heart Zimac? or do you use a translator like the one on HHN?

hehehe...
I memorize the al bhed letters in order...
so it takes me time to translate words...
First i translated "I LOVE YOU" to tell it to a girl who loves ff series...
and it just happend she likes it so i studied it well... and now i enjoyed it...hehehe:D
where can i see the translator???.... I didn't knew there was one...

I found the storyline, like I said, to be badly written.
'Oh noes it turns out that we were all together when we were children but we've forgotten!'
I've seen better plot twists in stories written by 10-year-olds. And like I've said, I didn't think much of the graphics either
and isn't it more exciting if it is more realistic... where can you see monsters carrying items and money... ayt
And where can you see monsters roaming the hills in real life? Critters that roam wildernesses generally eat travellers etc, and it's assumed that while they don't loot their bodies, nobody else does either because of the critters eating them, so you would find money nearby. It might be on a corpse or in a nest, if the critter has a magpie-style-shiny-thing-fixation, but there'd be something around.
I thought the story was good. OK, not up to FFVII's standards, but OK. And the graphics were fantastic IMO, but hey. To each his own!

The thing I really hate in FF8 is the Draw system. You want to have from every magic 100 and that takes time and is boring. And if you have good magic equipped the game gets simple.
The graphics and music are one of the best things in FF8.
ŧ Moved to Final Fantasy VIII
Yeah, I'll go with that. The draw system wasn't great, especially when compared to materia in FF7.

The background graphics and the FMV graphics were all very pretty, but the actual character animation was fairly lame as these things go. At least FF7 had the comedy appeal of the bad character animation, FF8 was unfortunately timed between comedy crap graphics and actual decent graphics, leaving the characters bad but without the comedy value.

Yeah!! I agree with the draw system thing is bad... is takes so much of your time... but that not enough reason to make FF VIII the worst right??? I mean it was overall good right...

Well, if the graphics were fairly bad, the gameplay was bad, and the storyline was bad, how could it have been good overall? It was bad with a couple of redeeming features, but that's about it.
Meh, I don't think the graphics were bad nor the gameplay, one flaw was you never really had to level up your characters until the end, but the gameplay still looked good to me and nothing's gonna change my mind about that. =D
I agree with the GF memory thing, that was kinda a "Wtf? o_O" moment :P
But the storyline appealed to me very much and never bored me, still one of the best storylines in a video game imo.
Also, I liked how FF8 was different, it was more tactical in how you had to choose between, well, magic, and better stats (in some boss battles it was more efficient to use powerful magic, from my experience, than equip the actual magic, but in others, vice versa) :P I actually liked the draw system, it made a nice change from the Materia system. Nothing's gonna change my opinion about this game, imo it rocks the box Q('o'Q)
In the end it just depends on opinion anyways :P

I liked FFVIII it was bit better than FFVII to me cause you can use GFs more than once per battle you don't loss stats when you junction your spells like with materia you don't have to level up your spells but you can and you can create spells, items, and cards with abilites it also had 2nd best story line FFX beats it by bit and it has some of most fav. songs in FF.
Okay, here I go...
Final Fantasy VIII had stunning graphics for its TIME. (Yeah, the graphics have gotten a lot better, I am talking about the graphics back then...)
I liked the battle system, because everyone has their own way of killing shit. (My was is to constantly use Limit Breaks, but this also has the risk of dying easily at a low level)
I absolutly LOVED the storyline...But I agree that the Memory thing was an, "Okay..." But overall, I thought it was a great storyline, and when you beat the game you start to wonder even more.
The music... My favorite music from ANY final fantasy. I bought the CD off of iTunes just so I can listen to the beauty of it all. "Julia" being my favorite song.

I think the game was ok but yeah in the battle system at first I felt I was using the GF's way too much for battle when I fought it was as if the GF's where the main characters, until later I got the Lion Heart and the limit and I stoped using the GF's.

I liked FF8. The characters were cool. especially Squall even though he had some emotional problems. The music wasn't as good as FF7 but you were able to listen to it. The only thing I hated about this game was the draw system. I'm not a big magic user but magic really makes the game alot easier in my opinon and wasting time drawing skill, summons, and magic from the enemy sucks. Other than that, it's a good game.

I suppose each to their own opinion. Cant really force what you like upon other people..
As for me, this was the game which made me FF crazy. I loved the storyline, the music is awesome and it gives me a sense of nostalgia everytime I think of it..
Im not about to say which FF is better or what.. Its entirely up to what appeals to the person etc.. As for me, I definitely love FF8 the most and nothing will change my opinion on that.

I think they changed the gameplay from ff7 to ff8 too much and i hated the fact that there was only a few weapons for each character.
yeah i expected there to be alot more weapon for the characters but there wasnt much
they changed the materia syatem to he junction system i actually thought that was good

i dont understand wots so bad aboot getting all ur magics to high amounts, i havent played in a while but all my character's decent spells were on 100 last time i checked, and it was painfully ezy to do plus u can exchange items for magic

I say it was the second best i liked FF9 more because it had better story

i think if ff8 allowed u to have like 4 pepl in a battle it would make it better

i agree with Pyramidturtl if it did allow 4 ppl i would have had
Squall Zell Irvine Rinoa
that would be my ultimate team and that would make FFVIII the best game, i would say that its as good as FFIX

Well, the character graphics were sooo bad, I hated it, you coulnīt which character had the worst design. Well, but the videosequence animations and characters were just great. I also hated some parts of the game like when this metallic spider [Beginning] haunted you, I had to battle it lots of times and that was very boring [and after time difficult, too] I havenīt played the game for long, so I donīt know as much about it. I was a little surprised, that Seifer and Squall had the same opinion in their first mission. I mean: Hey, Squall?! That one wanted to cut your face of?! So, thatīs what I really havnīt understood at all. And the intro was a little annoying, too. There were only moving pictures, at FF X-2 there were nice effects, here none.
The music was really nice and quite interesting. Battle was good, but Iīve always used my GF Shiva, never the sword. Iīve used the draw-system twice, but I found it a little boring and difficult, because you donīt know which spell these are. Well.... My opinion:
8/10
Itīs still my favourite FF-Game yet

Here are my reasons why I didn't like it so much... But if I were to rate this game on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it an 8.
Good
-Storyline was satisfying
-Graphics were satisfying
-Difficulty of the game was good
-Music was awesome
-GF designs were good
Bad
-Draw system ; I have tendencies to conserve...
-Gil (Ranking was VERY annoying)
-Battle System was crummy, and confusing...
-Limit Breaks ; Okay, it's not fair for us to have to use our limit breaks when the characters have critical HP, I know that I like to keep my character in high health...
- Characters got annoying fast.. I liked some of them but after awhile they're attitudes really got on my nerves...

I thought 8 was excellent =)
I actually didn't mind the Gil system. For once it didn't matter how much you fought for your income. It felt more like real life which was kinda neat. Between the Gil and Draw systems it felt like you had to budget everything. I didn't mind it because I got really into knowing who to draw spells from.
I liked the story line but the "we all knew each other and forgot" was kinda fishy but not too bad. There have been worse twists. The lovely story, as most FF games have one, was pretty decent. I actually liked it better than the love story of FFX.
The music and graphics were the best part of the game. That tends to be a sticky point for the series though. I enjoyed the music so much I downloaded most if it and even learned "Julia" on piano. It is a really pretty tune.

I played FFVIII a while back. All I remember was I really liked it, and would recommend it. Other than that it just wasn't a game I can remember to good. I am looking to purchase it because the time I did beat it I had borrowed it from a friend. Now FF- III, VII, IX, XII.. those I can remember in great detail. But then again I own those games and have gone back and played them more than once.
i started playing ff8 again and i love the game it has a fantastic storyline and the graphics really aint that bad for a game that was made year ago. I personally think its a great game.

In my opinion, Final Fantasy 8 was the best.
I like the storyline and how the characters could actually be real people (btw they were teenies)
And I actually liked the Battle/Draw system because it was something new that was introducted to FF
It was also easy to level in FF8, if Im correct I think it was 1000exp for each level, which was a good thing and made it alot easier to progress in the game
