Yes, It's on the same level as Zelda OOT and Vagrant Story. it's recieved the perfect score from Famitsu.

It means the game is definitely the most awesome RPG of the year? I'm not sure. People have told me the demo has sucked, yet everywhere Import reviews continue to praise the game.

Opinions? =D

I havn't heard anywhere that the demo sucks. I havnt found any other reviews either, but all the signs so far point to a great game. The outstanding sales record (almost 2 million in it's first week, compared to less than a hundred thousand sold by animal crossing in second place) is surely a good indication.

No. That is just an indication that it has been hyped. Whether it lives up to the hype or not will dictate sales in the next month, two, three.

but then again arn't famitsu famed and well known for being extreamly harsh when rating all the games? Maybe it is overhyped or something but still a review like that can only mean good things, right?

Indeed, they're very very strict. Only 4 games besides FFXII have ever had a 40/40. Zelda OOT, Nintendo Dogs, Vagrant Story and one other I can't recall.

Hence, the sales figures and everything else meant nothing to me, cause like Brindley-chan said (You're a girl I hope XD (no, she isn't red.)), Those can be the result of Hype. Famitsu giving it a 40/40 though... raises some eyebrows

I played the Demo, but with a lack of Storyline, I don't get too interested (I play games mainly for their storylines AND gameplay.)

The combat is alright, but I'm sure in the real game it will get better and better as you go along. Not to mention, summons are kick ass. =P

OPS2 said they wern't convinced by the battle system on the demo (Thats Official Playstation 2 Magazine in the UK if you're not sure) and that it was an "uncomfortable compromise between turn-based and real-time". Is that accurate or are they talking rubbish?

You know what grinds my gears a bit? They've been getting pissy at Final Fantasy for YEARS about the Random Battles and turn-based combat, yet PRAISE Dragon Quest VIII for including those exact same things!!!

Well to me it was just a demo, it was just a quick demonstration nothing much. SE did not intend to give the storyline or the best of gameplay away because it would be a huge spoiler. So I think we should wait till thr release, then we judge.

BTW quick update, PLAY magazine imported the game (and can clearly speak Japanese!), and said the the demo on DQ8 was misleading, at it is one of, if not the best, RPGs on PS2. They gave it a rating of 93%, which equals the score achieved by Final Fantasy VII (which is planned to come to PSP.)

I got that magazine yesterday as a matter of fact, purely for that review.

After reading what they said and watching the DVD that came with it I totally agree. It does look like it could be as good if not better than Final Fantasy VII.

I know! I only got play for that review... and the DVD was good...what was it, a five minute showcase? I think it had a trailer and quite a bit of gameplay shown there.

I can't remember her name...but there's been an English voice actor confirmed that I know of... she's gonna play either Ashe or Penelo (and she's also apparantly gonnas play Shelke in Dirge of Cerberus). If anyone can find her name that'd be great!

Thats the one! Kari Wahlgren!

By the way, I hear that Vaan (the character you play), does not feature heavily in the story. Instead, he plays more of an Amarant (FFIX) type role, one who tags along with the heroes and observes what they do.

It's a decision by Square to see the story from a different point of view, much like Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2, who was put in to show Snake in a different light. Vaan will be like that, but have a less active story, apparantly.

I also hear the story is more political than previous FFs, and focuses less on the Romance side of things.

Time to speak on points mentioned prior to this post.. :P lol

- Famitsu IS famous for being one of the most -- if not THE most -- harsh graders of all time, considering what they rate video games.

- As far as sales, Final Fantasy XII sold 1.7 million copies in the first four days of it's Japanese release. Proof: Here (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/finalfantasy12/news.html?sid=6146564&mode=all)

- The only games to get a perfect score from Famitsu are The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64), Soul Calibur (DC), The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (GC), Nintendogs (DS), and Final Fantasy XII (PS2).

- Yasumi Matsuno, the man who lead directed the nearly perfect "Vagrant Story", is lead directing Final Fantasy XII.

With that said, I'd also like to note that many reviewers have said that this is the longest Final Fantasy game yet. The demo wasn't very impressive, infact it was misleading as mentioned above. If you didn't get a copy of it with your copy of DQ8, don't worry... you didn't miss much. If you've ever played an MMORPG, then you'll know how the battle system works to an extent. That's the only thing worth checking out in the demo.

But I am definitely looking forward to this. I've had it paid off on pre-order for about 7 months now, as have a lot of other people in my area.

Cool, but you're not counting Final Fantasy XI are you?

Really looking forward on playing this game, but I don't think I'll play it this year, since October will be the release in the US and like Square it takes half a year to release it in Europe... >.<

Hm, I'm not sure about XI. None of them really mentioned it as exempt, nor included. But I've heard it can take up to 200+ hours to complete everything in this game. I hope so, as it would last quite a long time to run through it once or twice. :D

And if a MMORPG didn't take that long to complete - it better have no monthly fee ;o
Then again you can't really complete a MMORPG since they always add new stuff (well most do) and liek there's many different aspects and things to "complete" so i'm guessing they exluded FFXI lol.

Well the sales really mean nothing (i'm not saying it's a bad game of course) since the Final Fantasy series has been on for many years and has a large fanbase so obviously they'll buy the game (or atleast most of them). But as far as the storyline goes - it kinda gets repetitive with FF and somewhat the same lol. Of course I haven't tried it yet so the gameplay could be hella fun xP. But yeah i'm just saying lol.
