Wasn't sure whether to make a new thread about this or not, but might as well. The nintendo revolution's new name is now Wii.....yes Wii XD I didn't think anyone would be so dumb as to switch the name from something that acually sounded cool like "Revolution" to something that is just sounds as dumb as "Wii".

What are your thoughts on this? I personally think they made a mistake and should have keep the revolution name.

Wii doesn't sound right, it's a really stupid name.
Nintendo should indeed stick to Revolution.
Welcome to the GAME Update,
In the last couple of hours (at time of writing), we have received the news that Nintendo's next console - known as "Revolution" until now - has been officially named "Wii". Pronounced "We". Or as some have suggested, "Wee".
Whatever. We actually think it's OK - we haven't forgotten how moronic "PlayStation" sounded when we first heard it. What matters are the games, and we will know more about those in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Just a little info on it =)
What is so bad about it? from the site, I feel that the name is quite suited to it, giving their description of it

I don't know, it just kinda seems like a downgrade. The "Nintendo Revolution" had a nice ring to it, where as the "Nintendo Wii" well it just doesn't that the ring. The games are way more important than the name of the system, that's for sure, but a cool sounding name never hurts.

Well, my urges to buy that console have suddenly fallen to just below sea-level. I'll just wait for the ps3 instead.
Can you imagine trying to BUY a wii?
'I want a Wii'
'Well, there's a public toilet just out there'
'No, a wii, a wii! I need a wii!'

It's almost rofl-worthy! People are going to crack so many jokes about it...
lol I know someone who's kind of pissed already at all the Wii jokes she's heard, obviously she's a Nintendo fan or whatnot. What were Nintendo thinking? Revolution was definitely a much more awesome name compared to Wii. I'll admit, when you read the description on that link Trigani posted, it somewhat makes sense, but still! It sounds kind of plain and boring and there's just a nothingness to it, as compared to... Revolution. Which is liek, yeah. Has a nice ring to it and it's liek, well it sends out a big "wow", so to say xD.

doesn't matter.
i dont think it will dent sales or the popularity of the console.
I think the name is fun, whatever they choose to call it, its fine with me since it doesn't involve me or anyone I know.
they could name it the Nazi Regime Console and I'd still buy it.
I think the people that i have met (at school) that complain about the Wii's new name really need something else to pay attention to like the money they will lose to all that gaming instead of something productive.
seriously, idk why they buy games, i buy the system, rent the games, finish them, return them unless they have good replayability, then i might buy 1 or 2.
If they had announced it as "wii" then I wouldn't mind - I wouldn't know anything different! But to announce it as "Revolution" and then change it to "wii"... I think it sunds silly in comparison.
Nintendo fanboys are gonna say its great, and make jokes about them wee-ing on the other consoles... whilst fanboys of other consoles will make the same joke at nintendo.
Maybe we should come up with some possible jokes?
"Hey mum, I'm going upstairs to play with the wii."

idk why they buy games,
The same reason why people buy books rather than just going to the library. Because it's nice to own things, and to be able to pick them up again a year later and say 'oh yeah, I remember this, let's give it a whirl'
Also, because so many rental places are really lame
Agreed. And especially if you want to play a long game like Final Fantasy or Metal Gear... by the time you've completed you find it would have cost less just to buy it in the first place! And like to replay it would oduble the cost!
Renting Final Fnatays IX was the worst decision I made!

well, with game stop you can keep them for a very long time with relatively small pay.
and on block buster theres a deal in which you get to rent 2 free games a month and keep them for that long.
I guess its just personal preference, i like what i do cause it saves me money to spend on more important things..

anyone ever tried to access http://wii.nintendo.com/ .... OMG... it doesn't even exists... wii is not a registered trademark (according to nintendo it is but the websites aren't updated yet), and the E3 is coming soon... will there be a speech something like this?
Wii have a dream, a dream that wii all are together, that wii all are united...
that wii are playing games like wii never have done before
...snip...
wii always have been innovative... and wii always be innovative...
wii will unleash the revolution in gaming land... and wii will do that toghether... wii will need all the help wii can get... therfor wii are proud to present: the new step in how wii all play console games... wii will never play like before... wii are all here for... the console wii all have been waiting for...
the NINTENDO REVOLUTION...
that would be totally marketing genious
^ ROFLMAO. Hahahahahahaha, that should SO do that. It would be genious and give everything a good laugh about their silly new name "Wii", except maybe some serious gamers or something.

Preowned bins. Often less than a tenner (although I did once see the Two Thrones cheaper in the new section than in the preowned) and none of my preowned games have ever given me any trouble.
