A great bombshell was dropped at Sony's E3 press conference today, with the unvieling of the completed PS3 controller.

The Playstation 3 controller is wireless, and is essentially the same shape as the PS2 Dual Shock. The novelty is, that this controller has free movement in 6 directions, allowing the player to control things in game in a similar fasion to the Wii controller.

Bad news for Nintendo then, as some very questionable screenshots show that they are way behind graphically, and they no longer hold the exclusive gimmick to that free motion gameplay.

Today also saw Sony's unveling of Final Fantasy XIII: Fabula Nova Crystillis, the title for the compilation- that's right! of Final Fantasy XIII games! 2 of these for the Playstation 3, and one is for mobile.

Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
-Director: Motomu Toriyama
-Character designer: Tetsuya Nomura
-Art director: Isamu Kamikokuryo
-Main programmer: Kazumi Kobayashi
-Movie director: Eiji Fujii
-Main theme: Nobuo Uematsu, SMILE PLEASE Co., LTD.
-Composer: Masashi Hamauzu
-Producer: Yoshinori Kitase

Final Fantasy Versus XIII
-Director & Character designer: Tetsuya Nomura
-Movie director: Takeshi Nozue
-Composer: Yoko Shimomura (KH's COMPOSER)
-Producer: Shinji Hashimoto

Final Fantasy Agito XIII (Mobile Phone)
-Director: Motomu Toriyama

Square Enix also announced a North American release date for FFVII Dirge of Cerberus as the 22nd of August, and Final Fantasy XII, which is in the month of October. FFVII Crisis Core has alsoo been seen to, one or two screenshots from the upcoming 3D PSP game follows the story of Zack, and there's lots of Sephiroth in it!

Other news at the Sony conference sees titles such as NFL, Madden, Need for Speed, Metal Gear Solid 4, Eyetoy (STUNNING card game!) in development, and one stunning real time display came from Gran Turismo High Definition. A GT4 upgrade to the PS3 soley for this demonstration showed picture quality 12 times that found in GT4, after only a few weeks of development.

PS3 online is looking good, with a simple to use interface, allowing online shopping and even the ability to download AND CONTRIBUTE songs and data over the network for games like Singstar, which will make a Playstation 3 appearacne.

The PS3 hits US shores on November 17th of this year, retailing at $499 for the 20GB hard drive, and $599 for the 60GB. For UK consumers, this equals around £270 and £325 respectivly, much cheaper than many of us thought. Included in this package is of course the new controller, so no need to fork out for that.

All in all, looking good for Sony and PS3 right now, a very informative press conference.

omfg... I have a boner now XD
I love the PS2 controller, I didn't see a reason to change this. Therefore I am very pleased with this change.
Also I dunno if Sony retracted this at E3, but I heard that PS3 will come with free online capabilities out of the box. If what I heard is true, then there won't be any "premium" services like Gaybox has, but I really don't know so don't quote me on that. Either ways, it serves as a big plus.

Personally Im getting the PS3 as soon as FFXIII is out =D

I thought there were free services for the Xbox 360? The only differences were that you didn't have access to several of the (awesome and totally better than the PS3 Online) features or something. Probably wrong (well actually, i'm pretty sure there is a free version called "Silver" and the paid one is "Gold), but whatever and the fee isn't that much. You could cash out $50 USD (if you buy a card, $70 USD if you subscribe online but that also comes with all this other stuff) and then your set for a whole 12 months =P

I'm confused with what it means by "The novelty is, that this controller has free movement in 6 directions, allowing the player to control things in game in a similar fasion to the Wii controller." Liek does it look any different? If so can someone post some pictures? And if it's the same the nwaht does it mean by that quote I posted >< And lemme guess, IYO the "Gaybox" is gay because it's not the Playstaion? =/ Silly fanboy/girls. If I was rich, I would buy all teh consoles cause atleast i'm not thick headed enough to admit that both consoles have greats games that I KNOW YOU WANT TO PLAY =P And Wii.... ehrrrrm.... PIKMAN! XD. I never played that game, only once and it seemed cool rofl.

Yeah the old controller totally blowed. Thank god they decided to stick with the orginal which IMO is a bit too small/skinny but it's still good, nothing too bad like what the boomerang controllers looked like. And if people say 360 controllers are still too fat, obviously you haven't tried them yet or you just have VERY VERY small hands, liek a little kid would have (3-7 years old btw =P)

IYO the "Gaybox" is gay because it's not the Playstaion?

The 'gaybox' is gay because:

a) it's prone to crashes
b) it's prone to the Blue Screen of Death
c) it's HORRIBLY overpriced
d) that deliberately engineered shortage on release that was supposed to gather publicity but instead just screwed over fans (the people affected by this publicity run were almost entirely the people who'd already PAID and therefore don't need advertising to)
e) prior experience with Xboxes have revealed that they're prone to horrific breakdowns in quality (for example, taking over an hour to load a level of Halo 2) - a friend of mine has had three different Xboxes and 2 different copies of that game, from different suppliers, and has run into the same problem with all three. On the other hand, I've got my ps2 which was second-hand and is older than any of those Xboxes, which still works perfectly.

The ps3 however is STILL horribly overpriced, and I won't be touching it. Not until the price drops to reasonable levels.

The PS3 free movement controller IS the dual shock shape. I think the PS3 is a bargain at maximum £325. I wa gettin readyu to fork out more. Bear in mind a stand-alone BLu-Ray player will set you back THREE TIMES the amount of a PS3, so for whai it does it's a bargain.

Given that we don't even know what's going to wind up being the industry standard of next-gen DVD gear, I wouldn't spend money on either blu-ray or the microsoft equivalent.

I think the PS3 is a bargain at maximum £325

I prefer the Revolution (I REFUSE to call it 'wii') at maximum £180ish

You know that Nintendo have said that not every feature of the Revolution has been revealed? I think that's a good thing, since as soon as they'd announced wireless motion sensor remote controls, the Plagiarism Station 3 decided that THEY were going to have them as well.

Auron-X

Silly Sony stealing Nintendo's ideas when clearly they won't have to. IMO, they'll still probably make the most sales out of any of the other two next generation consoles. Well then again, it's pretty expensive so not entirely sure on that but yeah >< And your friend has alot of bad luck, cause I know several people with a Xbox 360 and they've had no problems since they go it. It could be a user-related problem (overheating - placing it in a bad area or something beyond my expertise lol).

Yeah, everything about the PS3 looked impressive, but I think they should stop trying to replicate Myspace features. Also, at the end of the conference, Sony said UK gamers would have to pay £499 - £599. :P

Final Fantasy XIII did look impressive, however. I'll definitely play that at my friend's house a few years later when it releases.

I think that's unfair. Sony merely made the advancement as well. Surely by that logic, all the consoles that use CDs or DVDs ripped off the Playstation, who were the first to use CDs as their main format? The same with DVDs, the ability to play music on your console, Sony did that first.

Can you link me? I know that amount came up in DOLLARS, and similarly in EUROS, but not Pounds. If that's how much the UK has to pay then we're forking out twice as much than the rest of the world. There's no way that's right.

PS: After watching Ninty conf- Wii is not screwed, but I don;t think it'll sell like PS3.

Except that CDs and DVDs were a logical and essential advancement - this is just a gimmick, although a fairly major one.

*Bing Bing Bing* You win... no points!

The Sega Saturn came out before the Playstation, and it could play both CDs and Cartridges. Even years before that, there was an add-on to the Sega Mega-drive called the Sega CD which added the facility to play music CDs and specially designed games.

Also, at the end of the conference, Sony said UK gamers would have to pay £499 - £599.

That was the amount in Euros, which'll come to £350-410. Still the most expensive console ever - the Xbox 360 was originally priced at £279 for the premium set, and of course the Revolution is estimated at £180 - almost two and a half times cheaper than the ps3.
You do, however, often see problems with GBP/USD on console release - for example, the release cost of the original Xbox was $299 in the US - and £299 in the UK, completely ignoring the exchange rate

It should be cheaper here, but Sony isn't paying attention to us. :|

I won't buy the PS3 until some decent games are released and the price lowered a little. Hope my PS2 will function a little longer, so I can play Final Fantasy XII, Kingdom Hearts II and maybe also Grandia III.

Good thing Sony did with taking the old controller and improving it. Wireless is a must now and the free movement feature will hopefully add some nice gameplay. I really didn't like the boomerang anyways...

After watching the Sony conference I really think that the PS3 is going to have a bad launch due to the games that were shown.Second, I am dissapointed that controller is almost identical to the Dual Shock 2.I was really hoping it would be the boomerang (it looked better) but the motion sensitivity sounds great.I'll be getting Warhawk too.

I personally think that the ps3 has failed.

It doesn't offer than much more than an xbox360.
and personally at 500 and 600 dollars, i think it'll dent sales, since you can guy an Xbox 460 and a Nintendo Wii together at almost the same price.
I have to say I am a Playstation fan, i Perfered the ps2 over the xbox and the gamecube as well as the playstation over nintento- but i must say i am realy disapointed. At 500 dollars I was hoping that PS3 would BLOW away the competition, but apparantly its only leading by a small ammount.

I'll give you the Saturn, I forgot about that. But I thought of the Mega Drive, the point was that CDs in the Saturn and Mega Drive were not the essential format. Playstation took over the market because it took that next step, going completely over to CDs. Notice thats where Nintendo first stumbled?

I still love the PS3, and the Wii comes a close second to it. THe 360 is, asfar as I can tell, nowhere. The only decent thing really at the MS conference was the Halo 3 announcement and that was immensly short justto show the game existed, shorter even then the FFXIII trailer at PS3.

I must admit I'm suprised by the negative response to the Sony conference, I thought it was immense and put the other consoles to shame!

Bing, no points.
Mega CD release date - December '91
Saturn release date - November, '94.
Playstation release date - December '94

But I thought of the Mega Drive, the point was that CDs in the Saturn and Mega Drive were not the essential format.
On the Sega Saturn, it was entirely CD-based. In the Mega CD, all the games were CD-based and were higher in graphics and content etc than the cartridge-based games of the Megadrive.

If you want to see Sony's complete video conference, click here (http://www.vgpro.com/file/15560_e306_sonypc_trim_800k.wmv.html). The conference took almost 113 minutes (a complete film) and is of course not only about the PS3, but also the PSP and PS2 games that will be released.

I'm viewing it atm, but I thinking about skipping some parts. Especially the Gran Turismo part.

Apologies for my first post in here, I used the wrong ALT code symbol or whatever they're called these days. The one I meant to use was €.

I think Sony's Press Conference wasn't as strong as the Nintendo or Microsoft Conferences, but the game selection looks to be much more enticing. Heavenly Sword, MGS4, FFXIII, FF Versus XIII, Assassin's Creed, etc... versus titles like Mario, Zelda, Halo 3, etc. Although Microsoft and Nintendo both have very impressive lineups too.

Wouldn't touch MGS4 with the standard-issue 10ft pole, no idea what heavenly sword is, can't stand any FF games after 9. However, I DO love Zelda, not to mention the possibility of another Smash Bros. game, and Mario is awesome

It's not even that big of a deal, even if Sony did steal the idea of Nintendo. They are still both different consoles and will have differents games/features etc..I don't see the big problem, it's just a controller. It's not exactly a big brain buster to release a wireless controller, alot of things are wireless. I mean what did Nintendo do? look at a TV Remote and think WoW this could be used for games.

I was reading paper this morning and saw an article in my paper it says now that 20 GB HD will cost you $500 it comes with no memory card slots, no built-in wireless, and HDMI the favored connection for high-def. TV. While the 60 GB HD will cost $600 and will have all those features that were lacking in 20 GB PS3. They also said that Sony hasn't said how much the PS3 games are going to cost.

It's not the wireless that's the problem, it's the directional sensors that let you control stuff by just moving the controller rather than having to push any buttons - this being an original innovation by Nintendo and, like I've said, not a logical choice for the next industry standard (and therefore there being NO excuse for Sony to suddenly declare 'we have one too')

Heavenly Sword is an action-adventure game similar to the style of God of War, with massive onscreen enemies that you can use various combos on to defeat and pummel through your foes. It was one of the main focuses at E3 this year so far during Day 1 and 2.

And, yeah Sony did steal all of those things (rumble, analog, etc.) and even the motion sensor equipped with the controller that the Wii remote is famous for. However, Nintendo stole it all too. Microsoft is the uncredited inventor for all of those features and hardware accessories. Those things were available for computer a long time ago.

Here's some information on the stronger PS3 titles.

However, Nintendo stole it all too. Microsoft is the uncredited inventor for all of those features and hardware accessories.

Atari produced the first analogue stick (1982). The n64 was the first actual console to use one ('96) followed shortly by the Playstation (analogue sticks produced in '97
A separate company actually holds the patents for proper force feedback, which is why all you get these days is a bit of vibration. A company called Immersion successfully sued Sony a while back because the dual shock was infringing on their patents. Microsoft and Nintendo just paid licensing fees (M$ was rather impressive - $23 million and a 10% share). Since Nintendo paid the licensing fees, it's not stealing. Since Sony refused to, it IS stealing.

That would of been so kickass if Sony announced something like that, would be better if it was April and Sony did it as a joke or something, but that would only make them kind of admit they stole their controller idea off Nintendo or something like that lol.

OMFG, show me the stuff you saw for Fable 2 Krytikal! Yeah i'm too lazy to google and search and whatnot, I let all you guys do the work (as in people from the forums I go to) and then I read and look ; ) lol. Holy crap, MGS4 looks nice - as in the graphics, characters (well.... lol), the weapons they use, setting, etc.
And i'm curious to know, what are the differences going to be in FFVersusXIII and FFXIII, like are they related in anyway or like completely different? Is the Versus version kind of going to be like FFX-2 or what? O_o Yeah FFXIII looks pretty awesome as well, is that what the gameplay is going to be like?
