In the recent issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly the magazine made a comment in their PS3 section about the classic RPG Final Fantasy VII.

"Last year, Square Enix teased everyone with what was called the "FFVII PS3 demo," the article states. "Well, what do you know? This test case was really a sneak peek at a next-gen revival of the PS1 role-playing hit."

Everywhere on the net things were placed like "FF7 Remake Confirmed!", but when IGN asked Square Enix more about this they stated this:

"Since the FINAL FANTASY VII tech demo at E3 2005, there have been a lot of rumors about the presentation hinting at an actual remake. While the June 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly confirms the remake for release in 2007, Square Enix has never stated this.

We have however confirmed that development has begun for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII on PlayStation 3. These titles are part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Project which also includes a mobile game titled FINAL FANTASY Agito XIII."

Now it's not that the game never will be made, it is just not the time for it yet.

Just to point out, all this denies is that the rumours are the official word of SE. This does NOT deny a remake and it does not even deny the release date!!!!!!

Now Im assuming that the people in power at S-E aren't functionally retarded when I write the following post:
They will remake it. Period. Full Stop. Et Cetera. The cash flow FFVII for PS3 would bring in is enough to make anyone sell their soul to various deities of questionable moralities.

I agree. It'd destroy them NOT to remake it now, aftre all the hype.

I doubt it would destroy them, just cause a bit of backlash from those who wanted it remade. But people would get over it and go back to buying the S-E games, Simply NOT remaking one game will NOT destory them.

I know, I was exaggerating. But it would be MUCH more advantages for them to make it then to not.

Of course, it would be extremely smart of them to remake it, considering the original PSX version sold it's two year supply in just two days. But, I remember reading an article around January when a remake was buzzing around then too, and the director of the original title had an interview where he said it would take at least five years and a team of 300 developers to make the remake. So don't expect anything any time soon, considering they're under heavy development for their other titles and new franchises they display during their own press conference at E3.
