View Full Version : Real Rock 'n' Roll.
NOTICE - I know I'm going to offend 90% of the forum if they choose to read this. Luckily, I'm can't REASONABLY be held responsible with a huge ****ing notice like this.
Real Rock 'n' Roll - Deep Purple, ACDC, The Doors, Blue Oyster Cult, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Black Sabbath, Joe Satriani, Dream Theater, Queen, ZZ Top, and other such bands.
Not Real Rock 'n' Roll - My Chemical Romance, Green Day, AFI, Thursday, Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, Three Days Grace, Hawthorne Heights, Matchbox Romance, Silverstein, Something Coorperate, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Thrice, A Static Lullaby, Atreyu, Iced Earth, Dragonforce, Bright Eyes, Fall Out Boy, or any of those things that you hear about every day.
Rock 'n' Roll - It's a feeling. A place. A way of life.
It's the Feeling that you get when you're tired of moping over a lost girlfriend or something that gets you down. Whenever your boss pisses you off, it's time to let loose.
It's the Place that you go to when you feel like things aren't working out. It's the only place that no one can truly find you, whether or not they can see your physical form. It is a place that can be visited in mind. It can also be a place of refuge - a rock concert. It can be a place like the mosh pit, where the fact remains that "If you don't get seriously injured, it wasn't a good mosh pit." It's where everyone loves you, and you love everyone else. It's where you love yourself. Where nothing from school, work, politics, or foreign countries means a damn to you. All that you can see and hear is the wailing solo and the screaming fans trying to imitate the wah wah so poorly, but even you do it when you know it sounds terrible just because it feels so ****ing good. It is home. The only one you want.
It's a way of life. You can't just like rock 'n' roll. No, that doesn't let you feel it. When you flip on the CD or enter that show - when you turn up your guitar amp, scream into that mic, or shatter the drum with a ****ing toothpick because that's all that's left of your stick, that's when you need feel like everything is well with the world. You feel like crying? Dying? Cutting? You've Got Another Thing Coming / Judas Priest.
IT DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE SENSE. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY. IT'S ****ING ROCK AND ROLL. IT'S A WAY OF LIFE. YOU LIVE IT. YOU BREATH IT. YOU EAT IT. YOU SLEEP WITH IT.
Ever since I discovered Rock 'n' Roll, I've found deeper peace and understanding. Through drunken moshpits and bear hugs with complete strangers, to ****ing some hot chick you don't know, to passing the peace pipe with some more strangers - you know what I've learned? You're alone. You're alone in the world.
But you're not alone in rock and roll. Everyone knows everyone. Everyone loves everyone. Everyone feels everyone. No one judges anyone. Rock.
I ASK YOU - Are there any other rockers out there? Well? Are there?
o.o
Uhm, this is why there are such titles as "Alternative Rock" Such as for The Offspring, or "Punk Rock" for Greenday...A lot of those bands are concidered Classic Rock though. XD
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird <3
The Offspring is Punk Rock, Green Day is Pop Rock. They are new age, though, and have practically no soul or essence. Especially Green Day, being admitted sellouts.
Offspring is still the secks. <3
But yeah o.o There aren't much more "Rock" coming out... Most of the things coming out now have their own style to it.
Judas Priest came out with an album a while back, and Pearl Jam just came out with one as well. So at least we know they aren't dead. =o XD

Real Rock 'n' Roll - Deep Purple, ACDC, The Doors, Blue Oyster Cult, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Black Sabbath, Joe Satriani, Dream Theater, Queen, ZZ Top, and other such bands.
Actually, technically real rock and roll is stuff like Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, that kinda crowd :P
Dream Theater are prog metal.
Deep Purple, AC/DC, The Doors, Motley Crue are all hard rock.
Blue Oyster Cult are psychadelic/heavy metal
Judas Priest are heavy metal (and NWOBHM to boot)
Black Sabbath are heavy metal
Not Real Rock 'n' Roll - My Chemical Romance, Green Day, AFI, Thursday, Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, Three Days Grace, Hawthorne Heights, Matchbox Romance, Silverstein, Something Coorperate, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Thrice, A Static Lullaby, Atreyu, Iced Earth, Dragonforce, Bright Eyes, Fall Out Boy, or any of those things that you hear about every day.
No, stuff like MCR is emo, Iced Earth and Dragonforce are power metal, Atreyu are metalcore, fall out boy are alt rock...
However, when it comes to classification, they all come under the category of 'rock' or 'metal'
I ASK YOU - Are there any other rockers out there? Well? Are there?
I'm in a whole university society of rockers. There are over 200 of us, and we reguarly go and raid rock clubs in other cities, as well as holding our own night every 2 weeks

Yes you can, and you will be if there are complaints about this thread.
Yeah totally agree with what you said there. But like everyone said, there are other sub-catergories which are what those bands you mentioned aren't real rock 'n' roll, go under. Yeah alot of those bands too are emo ones xD.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down there. That's rockabilly, which isn't really rock 'n' roll. It was basically just fast, upbeat blues. A little brighter. Those are the forefathers of rock 'n' roll. Random history fact : Rock was called rock because in old style terms commonly used in things like blues, it was another way of saying 'sway to the music' or 'make love' or something. Yeah.
Dream Theater are prog metal.
Deep Purple, AC/DC, The Doors, Motley Crue are all hard rock.
Blue Oyster Cult are psychadelic/heavy metal
Judas Priest are heavy metal (and NWOBHM to boot)
Black Sabbath are heavy metal
The name 'metal' was, during the age of bands like Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbath, a kind of surname for hard rock. In the beginning of the genre, it was just another way of describing what would possibly become glam rock (wearing black, using heavy pyros). However, Black Sabbath is primarily self-proclaimed hard rock, as is Blue Oyster Cult. Heavy metal didn't get it's current approved description (along with metal) until the early 80's when bands like Judas Priest came along. Now, I'm admitting to Dream Theater and Judas Priest being metal, and the fact that I put them there just because I like to rock to their music. Yeah, I'm cool like that.

Fall Out Boy is emo. I was being direct, because most people have these kinds of misconceptions. Those bands have no soul, either way. The only thing they feel is the pain of their mascara burning their black putrid flesh. And yes, Dragonforce and Iced Earth have whiny vocals that hint this. While on the subject, the latest Amorphis arlbum has made me very angry. Their new singer needs to suck a lemon.

Where are you centered?

That's the rule you came up with to protect the ignorant and the blind, isn't it? Either way, have at you.
O.o
Fallout Boy is Emo? Wtf? XD
MCR = Emo
Fallout Boy = Not emo
MCR - Dresses mostly all in black and makes songs about sadness and death.
Fallout Boy - Makes songs about dancing and having sex.
Now, compair..XD
The only thing "Emo" about them is their hair O_o
Well either why Xyrin, they still suck xD. Though in my opinon, I still say they're emo or atleast they try to be >.>

Nope, that's rock and roll. Rockabilly was the earliest form of rock and roll, and is pretty much the definitive genre when people consider the term.
Hard rock is different - it's VERY blues-influenced

The term 'heavy metal' has been around since the late 60s - first recorded 'official' usage being in 71. Blue Oyster Cult are self-proclaimed heavy metal.

I don't know about Iced Earth, being not a fan, but as for Dragonforce, there's a difference between falsetto singing and 'whiny'. And if you'd ever heard Herman Li play live, you wouldn't claim that they didn't have 'soul'
Now, I'm admitting to Dream Theater and Judas Priest being metal, and the fact that I put them there just because I like to rock to their music. Yeah, I'm cool like that.
Just sounds incredibly arrogant to me.

Nottingham - although you wouldn't fit in, we don't like musical bigots :P

No, that's the rule that I've come on the wrong end of more than once, and I thought that you'd appreciate the warning. Evidently not.

lol this is great i dont think we've ever had someone trying to clense the forums in some reaalllly big musical inquisition before. Wonder if we can burn the non-believers at the stakes heh. To be honest, you're really missing the whole point of music dude... its not all about "I'M A TRUE ROCKER SO I OWN YOU ALL" kinda thing. music is about bringing people together and bringing joy to everyone its not some kind of elitest thing. you basically making yourself sound like one of those teeny boppers who think cause they listen to something with a distorted guitar in that they are teh sex. heh
I agree with Hideto, Music is something everyone should enjoy and not have people in the background flaming it because they don't like it. There will always be some type of genre of music out there that you can listen to.
Like an old member of this forum started called Grace about music and movies, things change with time, they evolve and grow. Rock has just been expanded into tiny little sub-catergories now, even more sure that there still is SOME 'rock n roll' being produced.
Doesn't matter if Fallout Boy is emo
or if Britney Spears is rap, so what? it's music you either love it or you hate it. It's up to people what they class the music they listen to, even if it's not right it's how the people see it and thats how they enjoy it.
