Vagrant Story is an RPG with a unique system on the PlayStation.
I have this Squaresoft RPG for almost six years now, but never finished it. Untill now, I'm before the final boss (Guildenstern) but I can't defeat him (the Angel one). First he casts spells (like Apocalypse), which I have to reflect on him, but after a while he stops with that and he will cast status down magic. My weapon doesn't cause much damage on him either. And when he casts Bloody Sin (which looks really nice) I die everytime.
Does anyone have some advise? I've checked some faqs, but all have a different strategy.

Is Vagrant Story a good RPG? The last RPGs I played were Star Ocean 3 and Tales of Symphonia and Star Ocean didn't really appeal to me much because it was so long (synthesis was murder). I've seen Vagrant story in my local game and might buy it, would you say it's better than Star-Ocean?

Vagrant Story requires a lot of patience. There are so many things you need to know. Like what weapon is best to use with what for a gem.
Also the story is quite hard to understand (I still don't know what it's all about). The graphics are one of the best seen on the PlayStation. Don't expect a lot of movies, there's only one, the intro.
You play the whole game with one character. By defeating bosses your stats will increase. The game has some good gameplay. I only completed 81% of all the maps available. You need special keys to access some areas. Also I red that you can access secret areas when you replay the game. Also finding all chests in the game is a big challenge, only got 73% so far. The puzzles in the game are sometimes hard that you really need to concentrate. You can synthesize your own weapons at a workshop, from all types of blades, grips and gems.
I've played the game for 27 hours now. It's not that long like Final Fantasy and Star Ocean games, but still worth playing.
I don't know if it's better than Star Ocean 3. It differs too much.

I love Vagrant Story, it was very hard but when you eventually finished the mission you were on, you felt like you did something and that's always good in my opinion. I also enjoyed the story and characters. The graphics could have been better but nothing I can complain about.

First of all: BLOODY SIN!!!!
i hated that attack! but it is 100% survivable. there are two ways to do this. the way that i read about involves using your bow to shoot guildenstern while he is flying above you. this will cancel the attack immediately. sounds great, right? well, its pretty hard to do, since the window of opportunity is small, especially if your crossbow doesn't have stellar range.
BUT DON'T FEAR!!!! After dying several times, i found my own survival strategy. Hagane. Jazierant. Shield. (course, it helps to get the rest of your equipment up to hagane hoplite as well) hook it up with all the dark affinity things that you can find. and bloody sin will do no more damage than a regular attack! if you can't find equipment, fight the soilders in the city areas.
Here's how it looks: Vagrant Story requires patient boss battles, one endless dungeon, good timing (for attack chains, which you can't survive without), and, well, patience in general.
However, the good aspects certainly outweigh. The customization (essential) is really good, and the gameplay is fun. and did i mention the story? the plot of vagrant story, even if there are some long dry spells, is awesome. the new game +, though i haven't beaten it yet, is also fun if you want to whip up on some bosses that aren't so tough when your equipment is jacked up.
