I got the idea for this thread from another site I was browsing a long time ago; though the first post didn't really say much of anything.) So then, which RPG Battle System do you like the most in this genre of games?

~~~ Turn Based: The typical system that is found in most Final Fantasy games, the Breath of Fire series and so on.
~~~ Real-time: This would be the systems used in Zelda and Alundra games.

~~~ Strategy/Tactical: My favoured battle type, which is used for the Fire Emblem series, Tactics Ogre and so on.
~~~ Other: Like something else that is bizarre or rarely used in RPG's? Explain what it is and how it's different from the other types.

~~~ Mix Of Systems: This could detail the use of a few of the other battle types. Example games would be the Tales series, where you fight real-time within a turn-based battle. Also, Bahamut Lagoon is a perfect example. You move around the map like a Tactical battle, though when you engage an enemy you are taken to a screen where you fight a turn-based battle ala Final Fantasy.
Vote in the Poll and discuss what option you selected and why.
I like the Turnbased system. Most of my favourite RPG's use that system, it's also the most common one so there's no struggling to find a good game with that type of battle system in it.
Turn-based is my favorite battle system too. I really like RPGs with that system (like Final Fantasy, Grandia, Breath of Fire). Real-time is cool too, but some games are becoming hack and slash games then.
I like all battle systems equally.
Turn-based games are what turned me on to the RPG genre. Final Fantasy has explored most of the turn-based possibilities (ATB, CTB, etc.) and done so well.
Strategy RPGs are fun because they incorporate the battlefield. Not all mages are spellswords and need to be standing upfront. Similarly, archers don't need to be within sword range to hit a target. SRPG's implement risk, unlike turn-based games. Tactics Arena Online is a great example of non-RPG tactical gameplay.
Real-time RPG's aren't usually RPG's. They're hack'n'slash/beat-em-ups with RPG elements. A beat-em-up with a storyline does not make an RPG. A hack'n'slash with stat points does not make an RPG. While I don't approve of restricting a genre to certain conventions, blurring the lines smudges my enjoyment.
Other systems... How dare ye not mention the almighty and revered d20? Dice systems, as used in DnD, make for really exciting gameplay. Hard knowledge of the odds causes so much anticipation. In any other RPG, after a few hours of play, chances to hit/critical/whatever can be judged, but in DnD, they can be calculated! Scoring a critical hit in Joe Bob's RPG is nothing like physically rolling a 20 in DnD and imagining your blow rupturing the enemy's spleen.
The most important thing in any battle system is chance. There should never be a point where battle results are predetermined. Tactics should have to be modified on the fly and a sense of danger should always have one on their toes.
have any of you played, I think it's 'Kingdom under fire' where you control a leader who commands a strategy style army and you get into a fight and pull off combos like in a fighter game, that is cool
