Well I'm not sure 100% WHY it was made.....but it was named FINAL Fantasy because it was to be Sakaguchi's last game before retiring. But it was a massive success and the rest is history.

Well...so's that to be fair....

That's about right. Squaresoft was making RPGs but they all SUCKED and so, with the company going bankrupt, they decided to give it one last go and thus called their "last" game Final Fantasy. However, the game succeeded and Square went on to become one of the greatest RPG companies in the world :D

It was on G4 on demand a couple of months ago. I haven't had the channel for a few months so I dont know if they still have it up. Of course, I'm sure you can find it on YouTube :P

I found it. I watched it. I loved it and agreed with every bloody thing they said.

Nobuo Uematsu currently occupies around 80% of tracks on my iPod. I have the soundtrack VII, VIII, IX, X and AC. XII I have too but I don't like a smuch, except for...Kiss me Goodbye! Another Uematsu song! This guy's inspired me to become a game composer as well. Thanks for telling me about the doc, I am a very happy bunny.

Good luck with that man :D

I'm gonna get more of his FF music after christmas via iTunes. His stuff probably takes up maybe 5% at the most. Half my iPod is nothin but metal and I've got 2500 songs on it >.>;

YOU ARE EXACTLY CORRECT! Final because it was going to be their last game the fantasy part im not sure but i think its because, maybe, they wanted to continue going but they all thought they were not going to make it so they called it final fantasy
thats just what i think:D

@Blaise:Do you think "Fantasy" was thrown in because it was a "Fantasy" game? The game type was RPG obviously but the content genre was Fantasy.

Final

Fantasy.

Perfect.

this is true, but lacks a bit of detail :D

Square was going bankrupt, so Sakaguchi decided to give RPG making one last shot, and wanted it to be everything that Dragon Quest [ Created by the rival comapny at the time, Enix ] was not. he wanted an in depth story, likeable characters and a great soundtrack.

so he presented his idea's to the company, who gave it the go ahead, in a last ditch attempt to make money. it's called " Final Fantasy " because it was supposed to be Sakaguchi's last game, hence the final and the " fantasy " was due to the fantasy world he created.
