Weird that there's no World of Warcraft thread, while some people here are playing it.

For the people who don't know what World of Warcraft is (you need to shame yourself): Its a massive multiplayer online RPG made by Blizzard which plays in the Warcraft Universe (like the RTS games).

I'm planning on downloading the free 10 days trial version (2,86 GB ) to try it and maybe when I like it I'll buy it. But still I haven't got much free time, but I heard in WoW you can also play like an half an hour a day and do a quest unlike in Final Fantasy XI.

Dusk

Yeah, and when your not logged in (if your in a town you get more) you get bonus xp, so if you dont log on for say 2days you could get up to like 3000xp bonus, so when you skill mobs it gives you +to exp until it uses the 3000.

It's quite a fun game, nice PvP too if your bored of grinding. Mounts arent as bad as FFXI's you just buy them and thats it. Quests are fun, especially with friends.

If you do join, join Darkspear, thats where Aeyze + Grae is and where im heading.

I've downloaded the trial version and I'm currently installing it. I hope I'll go online later this evening, otherwise tomorrow.
The game is not very expensive (only €20), but the online costs are...

Dusk

Online costs are the same, if not cheaper then FF11's. Plus you dont have to pay for additional characters.

that and the fact that i have a few friends now who play the game would be the only things that would probably attract me to the game.

My brother's d/ling it right now, even (68% complete) and I may do the trial just to talk and screw around with an old friend from New York, but all in all, I'm quite fond of my new Summoner job and even moreso of my summons in FFXI atm so I'll usually be playing that :P

my friend plays WoW he said its good he jus started playing it again after he terminated his account for a while from what i seen the graphics are ok but not better than FFXI

Last night I have started playing World of Warcraft. I'm a Dwarf Warrior level 4 now and my name is Ziddy (just like in FF11). I joined Darkspear too.
I really like the game. I've started with some simple quests (like kill wolves etc.) and bringing things to others.

nice lol and what is darkspears???? a server or something?

Dr. Aeyze
17-12-2006, 21:28
Yeah, Darkspear is one of the WoW EU servers, they break down the servers into a selection, you can have PvP, Normal (such as Darkspear) and RP (roleplay) and RPPVP (obviously, roleplay + PVP)

Personally - I like WoW a lot, it's different from FFXI and it's a nice change, what it lacks in detail compared to FFXI it more then makes up for in expansiveness, seriously, the landscapes are freakin huge, and they look great =D. I'll keep an eye out for you Zidane when I next log in ^^ I've got two characters on Darkspear, Aeyslin (Human Warrior) but I much prefer playing on my Night Elf rogue, Synch O:

Oh damn I didn't see this yet

Hey Ziddy, I'm on Darkspear too, you got the european free trial I hope, I'm a level 41 Night Elf warrior, and i LOVE this game, it's so good, I have a mount too

The game is a lot of fun, and you can really do a lot of things yourself, it's more balanced than FFXI for sure

Zidane007nl

Hey Ziddy, I'm on Darkspear too, you got the european free trial I hope...
Yeah, I have the European free trial. :)
European members who never played WoW and want to try it, you can download it from: http://teaser.wow-europe.com. :6

I only played the game for I think 4 hours and now I'm already thinking of buying the game. But I was planning on buying Dirge of Cerberus this week too...:undecided:

I remember the days when you guys were all playing FFXI and well not disapproved (well maybe a few of you) but said you guys wouldn't play WoW, or atleast said FFXI was better =P Which still might be in a few of your minds, but from the looks of things you're enjoying WoW more? ;P

I would totally keep on playing WoW if you didn't have to pay a monthly fee and if I totally had a better computer - mine sucks ass. I'll have to admit though, when ALL you're just doing is leveling up - it keeps really boring. That's why alot of people disapprove of WoW, they think it's a completely grindfest which it isn't unless you choose it to be.

The thing I like about WoW besides the fact that it's a Warcraft game (RTS games ftw) is that there's alot of other things you can do besides just questing and killing things ;P I mean with teh professions and aswell as the instances. And my favourite of all things - cliff jumping =P

Errrr heh the expansion looks pretty cool with flying mounts but I don't like what they did with the Draenei (sp?) I mean originally in Warcraft III and aswell as the hostile Draenei's you could find in parts of WoW, they looked alot of different. Even though I guess some people would find them cool and everything, it totally kills the class because most people would play a Draenei just because it looks cool. Which means alot of noobs hanging around ;o

Lol I wouldn't say that game is balanced - far from it to be honest. I mean all you really need to pwn people in PvP Servers is Night Elf Rogue which some kickass armour and weapons and few skills then gg. Though Shamans are pretty pwnt too, but yeah. Still fun nonetheless.

At least there's no sky in WoW :)

Auron-X
21-12-2006, 11:40
Whaddya mean by "no sky" cause i've looked up before and I'm seeing something. If it's not a sky then wtf is it xD And anyways how is the fact that there is no sky a good thing? ;o It makes things look better xP. Except for me, since my graphics card fails, so liek, everything looks crappy when I play any game xD.

Endgame FFXI is flawed, known as Sky and Sea, it's not instanced like WoW's endgame is. It sucks really badly.

Rogues have changed alot since you last played, when I first joined they were heavily overpowered but not so much anymore, Paladin/Mage is all you seem to see on Bronzebeard now, since recent patch considering Warlock's demonology got buffed heavily there arent many warlocks about.

Zidane007nl
21-12-2006, 23:59
I've bought World of Warcraft today! :D
Only first thing I'm going to do is read some important things of the manual before I'll go playing the game to see how things work. I might also start with a different type of character.

Well it's been awhile since I played so I'm sure alot would of happened ;P Hey ever seen/heard of Night Elf Female Rogue named Vanish? Level 60 aswell =/ Was damn annoying when I played as an Orc, kept raiding Crossroads (like everyone does xP) with a few other high level Alliance members. But yeah, that was liek last year so lol.

Well when I was around I still saw alot of Paladin and Mages (omfg especially Paladins, even worse that alot of them were noobs >_<), but I meant in terms of PVP and stuff. Well when I bought Guild Wars Nightfall (which I regret since i'm now not really into Guild Wars anymore lol) it came with a 14-day World of Warcraft trial ;P (too bad I can't play my old account..... can I? lol) Just wondering... how much room does it take up now? WoW that is.

Mmm yeah, but Paladins got a big buff now, they arent called loladins anymore, i heard someone call them bafadins lol. Hunters also got major buff, they are so buffed now its unbelievable lol..

My control panel says wow is 11,270.00mb

Auron-X
22-12-2006, 13:26
Are you serious? 11 gigs? Man screw that lol. Well atleast not until I get a way better computer. Man when I played it was only 4 gigs but there's been liek way more patches since then and new stuff lol.

Hunters aye? Yeah they weren't really that great when I played. I mean my main was a hunter and my cousin's main was a hunter and when he got it to level 60 he just stopped playing WoW and told me that hunters were pretty crap and stuff lol. But fair nuff.

When I look at the properties of the World of Warcraft directory it says its 4.85 GB big. Might be because I have the trial version still installed. Going to re-install it soon with the game discs.

Yeah, on the box is says a minimal of 6.0 GB free space is required. Now my installation is 5 GB, but I still need to update (456 MB), which is going really slow now... :(

I downloaded the 10-day version and played it for a bit, but it's not at all what I expected. And also, it's not really that playerfriendly for me. No offense for people who like the game to pieces, but I don't think I'll ever buy it.

Zidane007nl
27-12-2006, 00:06
I've deleted my Dwarf Warrior and have chosen a Dwarf Hunter. I like the Hunter class more, because of the ability to shoot at an enemy from afar. I'm at level 6 already after a little hour playing.

Hunters are great soloers.

It looks really awsome so I hope to get it really soon and play.

Zandor Strife
05-01-2007, 23:29
I don't have my own computer nor have I ever played World of Warcraft.

I heard that it's a very popular MMORPG and I want to buy it.

Once I have my own computer (I perfer a Laptop) I'll go out and buy the game.

All I need to know is how much will I need to play WoW when I create an account on it and do I need a credit card to do that?

Also should I join with the Alliance or the Horde?

I want to be on the same side as all of you.

Zidane007nl

Yeah, indeed. :D
I just got the ability to tame my own pet. Its great! You can call your pet and revive him when he's dead. You have to feed him though to keep him happy, otherwise he'll leave you. Your pet will also get stronger.

Now I can take enemies more easily. :D

Zandor Strife
05-01-2007, 23:49
You get to have a pet in WoW too??

Man now I want to buy it even more now.

Thanks Zidane!! ^_^!!

Auron-X
07-01-2007, 03:07
The main reason my pet helped me when I was playing my main (NE Hunter... yes I know but hey there weren't AS many back in the day xP) was atleast it killed the enemy or well tanked for a bit while I lagged (which happened alot when I played WoW since my computer sucks lol) lol. But yeah it's great that it can tank whilst you kill the enemy.

Zidane007nl
17-01-2007, 23:28
Did anyone bought World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade? It has been worldwide released yesterday and already some guys reached level 70. Why level that quick? I think it doesn't make the add-on more challenging to play.

About me, I haven't played much WoW lately, since I got some exams. Hopefully I can play more when they are over. I'm level 14 now and doing quests at Loch Modan.

Auron-X
18-01-2007, 03:20
Well I believe it was only one gnome mage who made it to level 70 (less than 48 hours after the release) through the help of ALL of his guild (all 40-ish members helped in someway, but not all at the same time of course lol). He and his guildie liek planned a whole trip step by step so he could keep on earning exp. Yeah if that gnome mage was in a PVP server (could be, Iono) he could totally pwn anymore atm lol.

I has TBC, the Collector's Edition :D

Nice I see you have Level 60 Human Pally (ewww Pally's ftl =P). Planning to get to Outland soon I guess? Haha. CE's are limited edition right? So if I wanted to get it in the future... No hope? >< Cause i'll eventually start playing WoW again but I want the CE. I want the pet lol.

Rofl. Damn that's like 8 hours wait. Screw that hahaha. Trial of Greater Silence? Never heard of them lol. Hey you guys know if Order of the Phoenix is still around? They were a pretty big Alliance guild when I was playing (yes same server).

Does it take long to get a party in World of Warcraft actually?
That's also one of the things why I quit Final Fantasy XI: waiting for half an hour for a party and sometimes they disband...

I'm level 19 currently and the quests I'm doing know requires to have a party.
My playtime kinda sucks (only 1 day and 5 hours), but that's because of school and sites I have to maintain. But now I have more free time so I can play more. :)

Auron-X
13-02-2007, 06:01
It shouldn't be hard. Unless you're on an old server with low - mid population and you play at times when least amount of people are on. The thing is with old servers (not all) that many already have high level characters (of course some still reroll new ones + the new people that join) so less people in low level areas. Of course if you play in a new server (usually the recommended ones I think) most won't be too high =/

Often I find myself asking for help and ppl usually whisp me (not all the time of course in a few areas or at certain times) or sometimes I just attempt to do it myself and I happen to find someone else there who also is doing the same quest/whatever lol.

Zidane007nl
13-02-2007, 23:56
I didn't have to wait long till I had a party of 3 and so I completed two quests. Now I only need to complete one quest in Loch Modan. I have to kill Chok'sul, but a party is recommended. So I'll try getting one again the next time I play WoW.

Auron-X
14-02-2007, 13:54
Or you could continue and come back later when you're a higher level =P
That's always an option lol. I'd help you if I was even on the same server, or the same region.
For us Aussie players (now anywas, before we could choose between US or Euro servers near when I started) we can play on both American and Oceanic (basically Aussie lol) servers. So yeah I can't really play with any of you guys since most of you live in Europe xP.

Lol earlier today I was questing and once I accidently aggroed a few too many guys and I was getting pwned when this Blood Elf Mage (Iono it's level - too high for me to see) helped me. And yeah keep in mind I was Night Elf so opposing factions =P She (well the character was anyhow lol) helped me for liek the whole quest xP.

Zidane007nl
15-02-2007, 15:10
I will come back and defeat it when I'm a higher level. :)
I'm level 20 finally :)
I was doing a quest in the Deadmines earlier today, but its quite full with enemies which I can handle easy, except the elite enemies sometimes. So I think I'll continue with the storyline by going to the Wetlands.

Auron-X
16-02-2007, 08:24
Deadmines is a group zone. More importantly it's an instance, or well dungeon where only you and you're party will be in that area (except for the beginning part before the portal). Of course that is, if you didn't already know ; ) You should just finish that zone with a group - they're not that hard to find and sometimes you'll find a high level willing to help out - making it so much easier lol.

And I wouldn't entirely recommended Wetlands for level 20's. If you haven't finished all of Westfall (and I mean all quests you can find or whatever), try Redridge Mountains or Loch Modan. Or if you want, you can get to Menthil Harbour in Wetlands, than take the boat to Auberdine in Darkshore and do the quests there.

Lol I forgot that my gamecard expired today and I won't be heading down to EB to get another one for a few days (well that's when I'm going down to the shopping centre with my mates anyways lol) >_< I was just browsing on the WoW forums and when I went to post (I had to log in obviously) it wouldn't let me lol.

Yeah at the moment i've got a 46 NE Hunter (Yes I know, but I had this char before most of those wannabe Legolasess (lol?) were around xP) and a 14 Gnome Mage. Wanted to name my gnome Anklebiter, Pinky or Squeaky but they were all taken lol. I even tried Squeeky, Squeak and Squeek xP.

For anyone who plays on the US Servers, come make a character on Bronzebeard =P

Zidane007nl
04-04-2007, 14:19
My gamecard expired too last week and my account has been frozen now. I don't know when I'll get a new one, since I'm kinda busy with other stuff lately and I have so many games to finish still.

I have a level 25 Dwarf Hunter now. Only played the game for 2 days and 4 hours...

Auron-X
05-04-2007, 08:18
My Night Elf is liek 9 -11 days or something. I don't remember lol. He's only level 45 aswell >_<
It's cause when I first started WoW (before I quit and came back which was liek a month or two after it's launch) my computer was uber crap and it lagged alot and so yeah. And sometimes when I went into various places liek cities the graphics would stuff up and everything would be weird lol. So I wouldn't know where I was going and stuff so liek yeah most time wasted lol.

Epic mount yet? ;p
And you can get the Netherdrake mounts in the next patch.
You have to do a series of quests or something with the Netherwing faction.
Or you can get the PVP Netherdrake, but that's only as a prize for the Arena season.

Grae
16-04-2007, 17:04
I didn't get 70 fast enough to get an Arena team, and my big guild split so i do n't know anyone i can have a team with

Don't have epic, it's 5200 gold, that's like really really expensive, even getting 900 wasn't easy

Auron-X
16-04-2007, 17:16
Well you can just get your rep up with Netherwing or do the quest chain or whatever to get the Netherdrake mount =P

I've heard from alot of 70's that they pretty much just already had their money when they hit 70. For epic mount that is, not only normal mount. Of course I would imagine a few already a fair bit of money if they already had a 60 before TBC and just did quests to get gold.

But still, overall money making isn't that hard in Outland. My guild leader earns like a crapload of money all the time lol. He liek farms and quests a fair bit (not all the time, sometimes he's playing his alt, raiding or doing other stuff) though xD.

Also, WOW = PVP Based =/

Auron-X
26-04-2007, 15:48
Yeah that's why endgame is PVE huh?
And the fact that to progress through the game you pretty much do PVE.
The only PVP you do is just for the sake of it or so you can earn PVP items.

You truly are an idiot Grae lol. No offense but yeah =/
Any half-intelligent WoW veteran player will tell you that WoW is PVE based.
Just cause it's based on PVE doesn't mean it still can't have PVP in it like WoW does =P

Oh and nice sword =P Def. like the look of it xD.
As for the stats, well they're pretty good aswell =D
I can't play WoW atm =( Good comp is stuffed.

Grae
26-04-2007, 16:09
You say PVP in WoW is only so people can get items, but isn't that the purpose of all endgame?

The way you progrss through the game, yeah, PVE, but the game, it's style, it's engine, it all screams PVP

and you say endgame is PVE, well it's not, it's PVE and PVP, because if you want to do PVE most of the time you have to spec to PVE, Restoration Druids/Shamans Holy Paladins (or defense if they wanna tank) Protection Warriors, and all that garb

and PVP specs are totally different, Warriors go Arms or an Arms/Fury hybrid works best, Feral Druids, some people i know don't even raid, they just PVP, endgame is a choice

infact ithink it's safe to say WoW is an even balance of PVP and PVE

Dusk
26-04-2007, 16:59
Auron-x, lineage 2 is PvP based but you do the same as everyone MMO, you raid to get items. You are the moron im afraid. In Lineage2 you dont even get to PvP to get decent items and its a PvP based game, you dishing out the idiot cards lol =/...

WoW has expanded and the end-game stuff isnt just to raid, any half-intelligent person would know that. You can chose to go PvP or PvE, notice how the PvP end suit and the PvE one looks the same? and pretty much similar? OH DUH. The only difference is PvE side gives you more spell crit etc (talking as a warlock) and the pve side gives you defence i.e resiliance.

WoW started off as a PvE game, there wasnt any BGs or anything but then they expanded into PvPvE

If the only end-game content was to raid lmfao, people wouldn't of been playing wow for 2years+, as once you get your raid gear thats it.. I think not

This is end-game armor for a warlock

Auron is right though, Blizzard focus's on balancing PvE side before the PvP aspect, simply because if you increae the PvE side the PvP side increases to. And then you get idiots who dont know how to play go "OMG DAT CLASS IS IMBA". Everyone thinks that with warlocks' fear being nerfed, they are gonna be free HK, but fear just made it easier for warlocks to kill, anyone that cries about being beaten by a warlock obviously doesnt know how to play or is an under-geared, needs to l2p mage :)

FYI: Im not saying WoW is the best and OMFG PvP, but when someone comes in and says Guild Wars PvP is better they need a slap. First of all, letting a class only have 6-7 skills isnt "skilled", thats just like me at my old works saying "Oh im sorry, I cant lift that box as its not in my hotbar and if its not in my hotbar I cant use it" and other side, the level cap being 20 isnt to make users get there quicker, its because the DEVs are lazy and know that to balance PvP any high is difficult would require them to take time to actually invest in the game, there's a reason why its free folks.

GW PvP = Good, but so basic and unconditionally stupid.

Oh AND with all PvP, every class/job will have an upper hand on another class, thats how it goes.

When did I say Guild Wars PVP is better than WoW PVP? lol. I just said I like it and stuff =/

Endgame in WoW is mostly the high-end raids and stuff. But it doesn't mean you have to do that, some players in WoW who prefer PVP go and do other things such as the Arena for instance. I'm not saying that in WoW you HAVE to go and do PVE all the time once you hit 70 (obviously you have to do PVE before that to level) because you have a choice to do PVP, but nonetheless WoW is PVE based =/

There isn't an even balance of both PVE and PVP on WoW, it's more PVE at this stage and probably will remain so as most of WoW's players are PVEers so Blizzard would concentrate more on that, which was their original design of the game (to be PVE based) anyways.
Just because you can spec to do PVE and PVP doesn't mean anything =/ Obviously you have to spec differently for both simply because they are different lol. But that doesn't mean WoW is PVP based or w/e you're trying to say Grae.

And Vixene, many people have already gotten bored with this game because they have nothing else to look forward to because it's all the same shit and Blizzard won't fix it's many other problems. I mean all Blizzard is doing with it's PVE is releasing more raids such as the new Black Temple in the next patch. Of course I know a few people still sticking around hoping for something else or w/e.

Oh and with the most recent patch notes. Blizzard seems to be focusing on balancing on the Arena at this point since it's pretty unbalanced lol. I mean a tank + priest = ftw. lol. With some variants or w/e. This game is hardly balanced btw, atleast not in the higher levels, especially Shamans which are getting a huge nerf in the next patch lol.

And there are MMORPG's where you level through doing PVP such as The Fury (in Alpha stage) and Warhammer Online which as most of you know is still under development.

Dusk
27-04-2007, 12:03
Well, I never said it was PvP based because it isn't, they are trying to make it more PvPvE based as many people move to do stuff like that. And the arena is PvP, so balancing that is somewhat balancing Battlegrounds etc, and tbh shamans did need a nerf especially for PvP (I have one). The only class that doesnt get the nerf stick is Rogue, if they get nerfed they get something that makes something else 10x better lol.

World of Roguecraft and now warlocks cant even dot and fear them when CLoS ison cooldown lmao.

Auron-X
27-04-2007, 14:14
Well they kinda got a bit too much of a nerf.
And well now it's just even harder to balance due to the arena lol.

Apparently paladins got a pretty bad nerf too with their heals or something xP.

Dusk
27-04-2007, 14:53
yeah they did, which is good as they healed mroe then priests, they needed a enrf and priests needed their heals better

So downloading the (EU) 10 day trial version, since so many of my friends *cough*Grae, Jez, Dom*cough* :P keep saying to try WoW.
I'll try and get over how ugly it looks (no offense WoW'ers, but I hate the character design and story, a lot) and see what the game's like.

Dunno much about the game, but I'll probably end up on Darkspear for those 10 days since I wanna play with you guys. Yeah >_>

That's great, Mirae. I hope you'll like the free 10 days. I was a little pessimistic too when I began on my free trial, but its a great game (if you have enough time).

You should indeed join Darkspear, I'm there too. :P
Not really often lately though...

Overall, I'm still not a big fan of the character designs, but at least everyone looks different, and not the same like in FFXI. xD I do love the world design through, environments have a good amount of detail.

BUT, it's a great game with lots to do, and you really don't have to spend too much time. The rest points are great for when you're not on for a couple days and you can easily catch up in exp. (I still don't think Mirae will stay with it though :P)

It's not bad, but one thing I don't like is I can't even communicate to people.

I've added you Ziddy and Grae (Voldamir) to my friendlist, but on a trial you can't talk to people unless they've added you on their friendslist too. The hell? =/
Dom, Aeyze, I forgot your WoW names =P
One thing I like is the exploration, the jumping and the swimming, and the fact you can resurrect your body as a spirit when you die, but ionno. I guess especially the restraint in talking put me off (I'm not going to pay for a game just so I can -chat-, in an MMO, >_>), but I'll see how it goes.

Character name is Mirea (Mirae was taken ;_; ), level 3 Night Elf Hunter lol.

But lately the game doesn't really interest me much and I'm thinking of quit playing MMORPGs and play offline games (I have so much games do to still). And paying €12,99 a month for a game that I don't play much is a waste of money. And I don't have that much...

The game is great though, a lot of quests, huge environment.

Expansion looks awesome wish I had a decent computer to return to WoW ; ;

Thing that bugs me is they changed mount to level 30 D; 3 jobs 60+ all that running that could of been avoided D;

@Zidi: I know your post is olllld but it depends on what MMO you want.

FFXI: really isn't a casual game, if you say have the job people want it can be semi-casual in leveling, but to get anything but leveling done takes a long time to prepare for and obviously getting people for.

WoW: Deffo a casual game, even end game is highly casual (obviously depending on your guild as some raid guilds are like "raid everyday we has no lifez kk" but generally its properly a good game, but it isnt really challenging even end-game is pretty easy.

just though i would say some end game is casual :P, but most end game is not 25 mans take up laot of time when your giuld goes to learn a new boss usally takes about 3-4 hours 2-3 days a week for a week or 2, tho i cant really say much i have never played FF11

FFXI - Need a group to level up effectively.
WoW - Can level by yourself or in a group

FFXI - Not a lot of UI modification and mods are not allowed
WoW - Mods are encouraged and even supported thanks to the API

FFXI - Worldwide servers, people from all over the world play on one server, this can make endgame scheduling difficult to oranise, and difficult for some people to get in to.
WoW - Regioinalised servers for europe, america, asia, australia, russia.

FFXI - Dat Switching/Customisation is easy.
WoW - Most of the wow data is kept in caches, so it's not so easy.

FFXI - Little to no PVP (cmon, Ballista sucks!)
WoW - 4 battlegrounds ranging from 10 to 40 players on each side per match, rewards including full armor sets, weapons, trinkets, mounts, tabards and other items. Competitive arena playing with 2v2 3v3 and 5v5 brackets with special rewards at the end of every season including rare titles and mounts only given to the top teams.

FFXI - Can have multiple linkshells.
WoW - Your character can only be a part of 1 guild at a time.

FFXI - A long storyline with cutscenes and good visual effects.
WoW - A whole world rich in lore of 3 past wars, hundreds of characters and races with their own backstory, terrific voice acting.

FFXI - Sky, Sea, Dynamis
WoW - Lots of instanced dungeons, but the premise is the same, kill bad guys, get lewt.

FFXI - Mithras
WoW - Draenei

D'awww, hell, FFXI wins for sweet mithra bootayy -_-
