First try

So, I was browsing around FFXI fan art, saw one I liked and thought I'd give a shot at coloring. Not that great, needs a lot of work still, but that'll take some time :P

When you get some spare time do some shading and textruing :3 If you're using photoshop then do the different sections on different layers, like skin/fur on one layer, different colours of armour etc.

I dunno if this is what you did or not, but what you want to do is set the lineart to the top layer and set that to Multiply and then do all your colour layers underneath. What I do is just apply a base colour, do all my shading and then clean it up with the eraser, rince and repeat for all the different layers (It's somewhat labourious with a mouse, I know) You could also set the background to some garish colour, it helps to see if you've missed out colouring in any sections, or erased a bit too far into the lines or whatever o__O it's hard to explain.

For shading I find it easiest to set up a "palette" of colours and shades on a seperate layer and then just continuously use that selection of colours, and use the smudge tool to blend in the different shades and hilights :3
