now we all know the war on video games has been around for awhile but it took off when supposed linked murders were involved(linked to video games) such as the one that went the farthest was the manhunt murder trial in which rockstars game manhunt was added to a murder case by the victims parents since the suspect and the victim were friends they would play the game together.so one day the suspect met up with victim and threatened him with a hammer for drug money the victim said no and was hammered to death. the victims parents blamed rockstars manhunt for messing showing this way of killing people with the hammer. and their game hating lawyer took this advantage to make the video game war take off by trying to convince americas national government(the lawyer was american) to ban video games and close the companies in america since they provoked violence.but the government denied his bullshit request(atorney general did this because it was bullshit) and the federal governments were the companies were also deined this. and the lawyer quote said"they are all on the video game industries payroll so as the money rolls in they will deny all request".this lawyer is still taking this war strong head on he even influenced magazines to make their opinoins influencing some parents to take video games away from their kids. after this america got a new rating system they still use the old one of course but added a new rule if some number of enemies dies within some number of time it would be rated M such as ninty nine nights which could be rated t instead of m.

final fantasy7 came under fire multiple times.an so did san andreas which supposedly had porno room which was actually never there but this rumor was made to ban rockstar well at least try.

so what are your thoughts on this silly war on video games?

One word: Bully.

People were already criticizing this game and calling it to be banned when it was only announced. The game itself did not have information about it released for months after its announcement. The politicians, upset parents and, no doubt, christian activists and protesters were in an uproar over the game, calling it many things, including a "Columbine simulator" and that it would "influence school violence and bullying."

The name for the game itself is bad, in my opinion, as it misleads these people into thinking this way. The worst you get in the game is a bat, a slingshot and your fist. Yes you can get into fights, but this is typical school behavior. The game itself makes fun of the school environment while keeping true to real-life factors, such as there being consequences for your actions including skipping school and the like. It's really just a typical school simulator. No blood, no death, no sex, nothing. Obviously one can tell the idiocy behind these parents' mindsets.

However, on the same note, its the whole "differences between generations" thing. My dad took me to the Family Values Tour and came back complaining to my mom how vulgar it was and she fought back at him, saying how this is probably the same discussion parents had over Elvis Presley, whose hip swinging, though considered obviously mild by todays standards, was considered VERY vulgar back in the day. I can honestly probably think of a handful of similar scenarios for this too. Just goes to show you how much society's dying...

EDIT: also, though I'm not a big Halo fan, I DO know that this game was originally rated Teen. My friend back in New York even owns a T rated game himself.

yes bully was controversial till it came out and every one was like what this isn't bad.

another low controversy game was fable many people were pissed at the fact that it let you kill kiddies in very gory fashion's and they kept in the sex scenes.but the game was edited and cleaned and sent out to America and Europe with no problems but still many people hated it because you could still kill children but at least their heads weren't rolling over on the ground. another game that outraged people was the obvious gta (do i have to explain)but one that surprised me was oblivion since it was rated t then rated because of the gory images but the only thing detailed about the gore was the removable hearts which you could throw around onto the floor and the obvious abuse of women which doesn't count since in re1 jill could be decapitated.plus alot of great games became canned or edited to a crappier version of game.

Actually, I read the story on Oblivion in one of my GameInformers. It seems that Oblivion had what the ESRB said was extreme violence they didn't realize was in the game: torture and...a scene of castration >_> There's also apparently a hidden topless mod for the female characters that they didnt know about, much like GTA's Hot Coffee, but to a lesser degree.
