Has anyone had a chance to read the manga Death Note?
The story line is hard to explain but a big part of it is exploring the complexities of what makes someone immoral or moral, and if the main character is evil or noble. It isn't really magical or violent but it's more of a thinking mans manga. Theres some humor added in but the chunk of it revolves around the main character trying to create a utopia.
Anyone who hasn't read it should really check it out.

Haven't read Death note yet, it sounds and looks pretty good though. Looks all seriiiioooouuss. :P I like serious manga. =P
How many volumes long is it, anyways?
I've read it. Downloaded and bought( I'm cheap like that.. ). Anyway, I love! :) Everyone needs a good thinking manga, DN is mine.
Anyway, It gets a bit confusing at times. How far have you read ?

I love Death Note! I only have the first two volumes but I think their are somewhere around 10+ because there are two major story arks.

I also have the first two and I can't wait for the third to pop out! I luv how Light keeps trying to cover his tracks, but somehow he ends up getting screwed, like when he ran into that 1 lady with the alias, but the detective guy saw light with her. Can't wait to see how that one turns out.
Death Note definately rocks my jocks. ROCKS THEM, I SAY.
Gotta bump this, I've now watched the first 2 eps of Death Note anime and I have to say...it frickin' rocks! I love animes that make you think. Kinda like it how the main character is kind of noble on one hand and evil on the other, depending on perspective, they did that really well.
Have to get the manga... @_@
Oh and Ryuku sure likes them apples, doesn't he? :P

I have finished the manga and loved it very much! Im now watching the anime and its pretty good so far. L sounds more sophisticated than I thought he would be and Kira sounds extremely young in the japanese voice acting.. I thought that they could have given him a more mature voice but thats just how I feel.
I thought the voice acting was excellent, nothing that irked me about the voice actors at all yet actually, even Ryuku's VA suits imo o.o
Then, I haven't read the manga (yet), so don't know how the characters are portrayed there, suppose that affects my view as well :P

Same as Mirea here, I haven't read the manga off Death Note but I am currently watching the anime and I'm totally in love with it <3 I look forward to the day the subbed ep.6 comes out!!
okaay, enough fanboyims :P I really like this series, the story is very good and intruiging, and I love the animation.

One of most beautiful japanese anime just recently aired might be Death Note.
Light Yagami (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_of_Death_Note#Light_Yagami) is a brilliant, but bored, high school student who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground in the year 2003 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003). The Death Note's instructions claim that, if a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the Death Note's authenticity, believing it is just a prank. However, after experimenting with it and killing two criminals, Light is forced to admit that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the true owner of the Death Note, a Shinigami (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinigami) named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the God of the new world" by passing his judgement on criminals.
Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira"(derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Killer"), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a race to prove mental superiority between the two begins.
An awesome manga and an awesome anime series... and also an awesome film!

Well, I haven't watched the anime, I'm not a fan of (any kind of) anime, but my friend Laura and I have watched the first DeathNote film (with bad subs as well) We have the entire set of manga... in japanese.
I've only read the first volume of the manga so far :x And looked through the rest lol, unlike Laura I can't read japanese xD
The film is pretty funny, I hadn't read any of the manga before but I knew the story line, the film has a couple of odds and ends that don't happen in the manga (and vice versa with things in the manga and not in the film). The version I watched had terrible subtitles though xD I have to say some of Ryuk's badly translated lines still make me el-oh-el.

Ep 18 was amazing, though the punch and kick weren't as funny as in the manga xD Good way to end the ep, with you-know-who (forgot his name) crying.
They showed the first film and the first episode at the university's anime society. It seemed pretty good.
I absolutely <333 the live-action films. Not all that crazed about the anime though, but I reckon that's because I was all hyped up about it when I read the manga already.
The manga never really got the same after L died. Though, so I stopped reading a few chapters after that. <_<
And the part in The Last Name when Light goes "Chekumeito" just ..brilliant

Episode 21 is already out. ;) The new opening is awesome!
As is the manga! I've recently obtained volume 1 and 2 and already read them both some 5 times. xD

OH I EFFING love Deathnote! I haven't watched since episode 14, I been so busy. It's SOOO freaking cool though. Great concept and very suspensful. I love Ryuko (Spelling?), he's my favorite character.

No, it isn't out, I got confused with the anime D.Gray-Man. The last one of that series is 26. xD
But still, I'm addicted to DEATH NOTE.
Ep 26 out...I wasn't impressed by that much to be honest. More than half the episode was a recap, and the rest was basically showing us what Kira would do now that L has died, which we already knew anyway~ no twists or brain involved here. Here's hoping the next ep will be better.
Was that Mello's voice near the very end? Sounds heavier than I imagined, and if that was Near's voice before that...sounds sooo different from what I imagined, sounds less smart than I imagined. D:
Just got done watching the first episode, and I must say, very interesting from the start. Can easily tell this is gonna be one show full of twists and turns, which I like! =D

Mello and Near's voice actors are good, suits I think. Near sounds like a girl, but then he's a little boy so of course he would.
They sort of cut some bits of Mello's character development at the Roger scene. Don't care much about Mello but still noticable :P
Not a bad episode, no real twists though as expected, though I liked the part where Light describes the 'aura' he feels and when Near tells him he knows he's the second L.
Liked the new piano tune that played whenever it did...lol

I still need to see this anime. So far i've only been reading the manga. From what everyones seeing I believe that this is a faithful and great reproduction of the manga. Any links to where I can watch episodes?
Only 2 groups that I know of fansubbing this, Kuro Hana and Animanda. I recommend the latter for the earlier releases as Kuro Hana has a few typos in the early subs (but they improve a lot later).
Mind though that they've started to release the official subs of Death Note now, which you can pay to download as well.
And the anime pwns, depicts the manga very well...however if you're a fan of the Mello arc, they rushed all that into 2 single episodes and left out a lot there =/ Everything else they did great.
Oh man, just saw the last episode of Death Note. Very very very fitting and epic ending. Easily the best anime ever. EVER.
Mello, Near, L, and Light are just so awesome. Wow I can't believe this anime. xD This anime had me completely gobsmacked. Definitly going to buy the box set when it comes out, even if the english vocals suck. XD

just started reading the manga its great and i just instantly liked it has a very original idea and is very very interesting.
