Microsoft has released Windows Vista yesterday for the public. Microsoft says its better than Windows XP, cause its safer, beautifuler and more friendly.

Does anyone have Windows Vista already?

I ain't buying it for my current PC. It's over 3 years old and I think with Windows Vista My PC will run much slower. And I dunno if all games I have will be compatible with Vista.

Maybe I'll buy a laptop soon that has Windows Vista, but I'm not sure when.

I've had Vista since early December (Piracy for teh win! <_<) and I couldn't imagine going back to Windows XP. All the things you now can customize and how everything is just... easier than XP... To put it the easy way; Windows XP is to Windows Vista what Windows 98 was to Windows XP, meaning shite in comparison.

:D

My laptop is sort of crap so I can't run the Aero Glass interface, but still Vista is pretty neat.
They finally did away with Windows Update website, and replaced it with an application of the same name. This was my primary reason to move to Vista.
A gigantic improvement over WinXP is the Control Panel, most relevant to peoples internets is the Add/Remove Programs feature. Now, instead of re-scanning all your programs every time, it indexes your programs and quickly populates it should new programs be installed.
Another incredible improvement is the Power Management features. To be fair it did cause my Acer ePower Management to basically crash, but Vista's own features makes it unneeded. You can define different power states, based on whether or not your laptop is plugged in or not. You can also control what the computer does when you press whatever button, down to a level which I believe could not be done in WinXP.

Not to make it sound like it's the Holy Grail of OS'es, here's a few downsides:
* The font, personally I don't like it as much as the WinXP font. If anyone knows how to edit that so it's the default WinXP font (Arial 11 I believe), let me know and you will receive 4 internets.
* The systray icons. In comparison to XP, they look crap. They look like Windows 3.11. As above, additional internets up for grabs for the cleber one who can tell me how to change them.

did you know that the color green was dropped for the glass in aero in favor of orange, this because a dutch guy made the style ;)

Do you not mean the beta release that microsoft officially released that time last year for free download? ;)

I'm quite excited about vista however I don't think I'll buy it till i've had plenty of time to improve my hardware and not until direct x 10 gaming becomes mainstream

I think my system is Vista Capable, but not Vista Ready.

So I'm going to build a new system in the coming months and just perhaps get a version of Vista to try out. Going to get a Dual core processor with about 2-3 gigs of ram and a more powerful graphics card.

Nope :D I'm talking the real Vista Ultimate deal ^^(or well, I think it's the one they released for companies and the likes to use and not for private use.) http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c75/Kaizero/vista.jpg

One downside though! It doesn't run Football Manager 07 ;_;

Nice work my simian friend :6 it must have taken some getting lol.

Why doesn't it run the game... Is it because of software incompatabilities or just something random? Are many of going to dual boot XP and Vista?

I dunno why it doesn't run the game, really. But according to some stuff I read at SI Games website, FM07 doesn't support Windows Vista. Which I found nothing but odd :S

I dunno how hard it was to get it though, 'cause the way I got it was from a mate of mine :D But yeah, I can imagine he had a hard time finding it though, 'cause I had been searching quite some time after it when he said he had found it.

Yeah even if I had a decent enough of a computer to run it at the moment (skin does look pretty nice btw) I wouldn't bother until it can support most games and well programs =/ lol. Yeah I heard about some new Windows thing being leaked some time ago on some forum I used to go to. Was actually several months back O_o Could be something different lol.

Mac? Don't make me laugh. Personally I would prefer an OS that is good for more than video/image editing.
But that's just me.

Well i have tried Micro$oft Vista Beta 2, RC1, RTM and at school i have tested Vista business. Well the Beta versions i have tested at my own pc wel that was just crap.

I thought WHATS improved i mean REALY it looks still like windows 98 when you turn of aero and all the other crap. Then i started searching for the REAL improvements well i found some new stuff but do we need it. I dont think so.

The sidebar with gadgets is just the same as the one from Mac OSX they just stole it.

I think it ins't improved much it looks like something new but it isnt.
The gadgets and eyecandy isnt what i'm looking for when i buy a new OS.

Then one other thing you remember windows ME that was crap to then came XP that was way better than ME.

So I am waiting for the next product of Micrsoft they are already bussy with it code name "vienna"formerly known as Blackcomb.

I have my laptop for 5 days now with Windows Vista Home Premium and so far I like it. It isn't kinda slow on my laptop. Think that's because I have 2 GB of RAM in it. :P
I too have a Acer like you Belazor and I agree with ya that those Acer Empowering crap is unnessesary. Can I just remove it?

Auron-X

I here the Vista has alot of problems right now...

Auron-X
19-03-2007, 14:21
Well I would imagine so.
Considering it IS Windows so lol. Expect them to releasing something liek that =P Haha.
But yeah at the moment there's probably lots of problems with it. I'd say liek most programs out there wouldn't work with it, but some obviously still do or have been released to do so. That and their security is annoying lol and then turning it off is kinda pointless. But I must say, I love the way it looks and all xD.

I have Vista, on my not-that-huge-spec laptop, and no problems so far. Little TOO user friendly, but some option-tweaking sorted that out

Maybe, but why buy a laptop with Windows XP that will not be supported in 4 years anymore?

oh shit that means ive got four years to get like 20,000 to get my new computer to where its at right now

and lolz vista will be obsolete in like 5 years so might as well wait for the next upgrade of windows.also 2 gigs of ram is a lot buddy i only have like 880 mb of ram and my comp is still running smooth (except i cant play newer games for more than 2 hours but fah i get bored after about 40 minutes)

Exactly, FOUR years.
So you mean by 2011? Cause that's still a long way away =/
I'd really just wait another year or two to get Vista, incase they release a better/fixed (or whatever lol) version or something. Or atleast until most programs are compatiable with Vista or something liek that lol.

I'm fairly sure Vista comes with XP's 'compatibility mode' anyway...

Auron-X
04-04-2007, 07:49
Well whatever Tharrick xP.
I won't be installing Vista on my comp anyways, it'd be ub3r slow.
I guess when I get a new computer i'll get Vista with it or something.

From what I've read and heard, Vista is a piece of shit to use anywhere, be it at home or work. Also, I heard that Vista is a RAM suction device.

poor driver support...
poor backwards compability...
poor CD protection support... (Vista CRC-errors for good playable XP)
Memory Requirements are insane... (anyone remembers windows 3.11)
Grapical Card Sucker...
Electrical Power Sucker...

Tharrick
25-05-2007, 17:07
I haven't had any problems with any of that other than the high RAM requirement (and I only have 1g of ram anyway, so I need to update sooner or later)

alexanderpas
28-05-2007, 06:07
still i think it's strange... a 500fold of required ram in only 15 years!

if you want a vista do a dual system because vista is not worth getting rid of xp that way you can play all the old games

I was gonna borrow the Vista from our club moderators but sounds like it'll be just a burden. I've changed my mind.

IE7 isn't only available for Vista, but also for Windows XP Service Pack 2. So its not really special that its in Vista. Windows Vista is cool, if you have a good graphics card and a good PC.
