I'm thinking of moving HHN to another webhost after 3 years of experience with PCextreme. It was my best host so far, but I think if I want to expand (more downloads) I don't think 60 GB bandwidth will do.
Does anyone know any good quality webhost that doesn't cost too much?
I was looking at Servage (http://www.servage.net) and they offer really much, but is it really good? I heard some good things and some bad things about it.
Please share your opinions. I only have 10 days left until my account automatically will be expanded with one year.
I heard vistapages was good, dont know if whats your looking for or what nt but they seem good.
http://www.siteground.com/ is a good hosting service that's not too expensive. I used to host three sites with it, though now I only host a forum and a to-be web-radio (O_o sp?) site.
Look around on their site and if you find out you like them, yay! If you don't, then just keep looking :P

Look at the Baby package, thats a TB of bandwidth a month, thats a lot Zid, and 100GB of diskspace, you could host ALL your websites with that package
I heard http://www.dreamhost.com/ was good, but I've never owned my own website like that, so don't really know for sure...just heard positive feedback about it
I heard vistapages was good, dont know if whats your looking for or what nt but they seem good.They are (were) decent, but then again we never had a "real" site on it so yeah... They may suck when under load.

Look at the Baby package, thats a TB of bandwidth a month, thats a lot Zid, and 100GB of diskspace, you could host ALL your websites with that packageLet's examine that for a second.
We will assume renting a dedicated server costs $100 a month. Add another $100 for various expenses such as maintenance crew etc.
For ease's sake we will round the monthly cost up to $10.
With $200 in monthly expenses and $10 in monthly income per account, that means there needs to be 20 accounts on one server in order to break even.
You can't run a business and always do nothing more than break even.
So let's add 10 more accounts per server in order to add some profit to it.
30 accounts with those stats would mean each single server had:
* 3 TB disk storage
* 30 TB bandwidth available
If each such server had 30 TB available, and the hosting company is large enough, we could be talking about 300 TB. Or maybe even 600 TB.
Such a bandwidth would cost an extreme amount of money, if it was even possible (which, personally, I doubt).
Definitely more than $100 a month for that alone.
This again brings us back to the need for more accounts per server, which again increases the disk storage and bandwidth available requirement.
Which again increases the need for more accounts on each server.
[...]
Not mentioning the fact that each account still takes up a fair share of CPU cycles (providing they have semi-active sites like this one, why would anyone need that much space if all they did was host their vacation pics for their friends).
Which again reduces performance for each site.
Personally, if you can't afford it already, I would set up some form of ad plan or donations scheme to be able to afford a dedicated server.
If you find a hosting company that offers a realistic plan for a dedicated server then that would be the best choice for a site to expand upon.
If a site needs to expand beyond a shared host, it is EXTREMELY RARE that moving to another sharing host brings anything other than DNS hassle. Unless of course the original host was utter shit (*cough*onedollarhost*/cough*).

Oh, I forgot to tell that I don't have paypal and credit card, so I need a host that accepts bank transfers. And Servage (http://www.servage.net) accepts that.
They have 250 GB web space and 2100 GB of bandwidth and I can host multiple sites there. I have 2 separate accounts now (one for HHN and one for South Park Fan).
I also hope I can host my high active topsites there and I don't have to remove it, because its using too many resources.
I don't think about buying a dedicated server. I don't want HHN full of ads (especially pop-ups) so I can earn it back.

I'm now almost 100% sure about taking Servage as HHN's new host. I'll order it tomorrow so I can arrange the move in the weekend. I'll announce it when HHN is going to move.
Thanks for the advice.
