View Full Version : The Songs
Do you think Final Fantasy X-2 overdid it by pumping up the volume and jazzing up the game for a little more fun with the music? Like real Emotion and the other theme songs?
Well, I for one, love the music and I've always listened to the songs in my iPod since the day I bought the soundtracks (Original Soundtrack, International + Last Mission, and all the other stuff.). My personal favorites were 1000 Words, the Machine Faction Theme, and the Mission Complete theme.

I've heard some of the soundtrack to X-2, and I have to say that I prefer a moving orchestral score to bubblegum j-pop.

Yeah, the soundtrack of the game was a kinda disappointment. The songs are too wild and doesn't fit with the areas in the game. The only songs that were good were 1000 Words and Real Emotion. Still I sometimes listen to the soundtrack.

I liked Morning Glow myself, the main theme for the game (at least that's what it was called when I downloaded it some time ago), but I agree, most of the rest of the OST was pretty bad. I tried playing it the other day cuz I never got far the first time through, thanks to problems with my PS2, and found I couldn't play it solely because of how aggravatingly annoying the soundtrack was.

I personally don't bother paying too much attention to the music. And it never stops me from playing a game.
If I don't like a track, I simply turn down the volume on the tv, and turn on my own music.

I really didn't like the music too much. Some of them I really enjoyed but overall it was an annoyance to be exact. I prefer music from 10 or 7, 9, 8. Funky tunes are not my style.

I liked the music pretty much! I overstartet the game again and again to see the video to "Real Emotions" because I found the song really good. I also liked "1000 Words" and "Morning Glow" I donīt know the others because Iīm not finish with the game XDD

I absolutly adore the songs from FF X-2! It's something different, a little more individual, the songs from the other games of the series were good, too, but I prefer songs like "Real Emotions" and "1000 Words" because they're just more lively, interesting and cute!^^ They match the game perfectly.
For example, I don't think that "Eyes on me" from Final Fantasy VIII doesn't match the game as good, as the songs from X-2 do.

The songs aren't individual they match exactly your average j-pop stuff thats already out there, if I wanted a j-pop game I'd buy the Puffy Ami Yumi game :P
As for Eyes on Me not matching? Have you played FFVIII? Have you listened to the lyrics of the song? They follow the storyline almost perfectly and follow the mood of Rinoa and the rest of the game very well.
I mean I wasn't bothered by the music in FFX-2, I admit that yes it was different from any of the other FF's but that what FFX-2 was all about, it's the FIRST ever sequel, and the first hypered up jazzy FF out there. I think it was designed to be cute and cartoony as it was aimed to entice more female role players to jump onto the FF genre.
Which is probably why most male players and hard core FF fans hated it, although to keep the male players happy they did encorporate kinky outfits XD as usual :P
Ah well, back to the topic, I wasn't bothered by the music much, and I have 1000 words on my walkman XD heheh~
Oh and sorry Miley, I didn't mean to sound harsh or rude or anything <3
Real Emotion is catchy but I wouldn't listen to it voluntarily. Just too much of a pop-song. 1000 Words was good though. The entire rest of the X-2 soundtrack was.....whats a good word....crappy! No wait! Eternity was quite good, and was the best of the Piano collections pieces as well.

i really liked the soundtrack. i felt it could have had more orchestrated songs, but it really fit the world it represented. i mean, sin is gone, the spira is happy, the population is young and outgoing, and the soundtrack fits.
BTW, i believe that 1000 words was the only song composed by uematsu on this game.

@ Kai Hiwatari:
Nah, no problem *nOOb*
To be honest, I haven't played the game (I couldn't play it because I didn't have a special stick or something..So I watched the Walkthrough for the story XD) I've listened to "Eyes on me" once again (I tried to figure the lyrics out, then I got bored and put them into a translater XD) But does that song really match the game that good? Although I love "Eyes on me", I think, that there's too much lovey-doveyness in it...Well, nevermind^^
Back to the actual topic:
I think, that the best song (melody, blablabla) in the game is '1000 Words' because it matches the things, that we think and know what Yuna feels about Tidus perfectly (I like the lyrics). It's nice to sing along, too.
'Real Emotions' is a nice and cool song, but it's not a song, you listen to constantly, or you put on you MP3-Player, it's kind of a happy-be-happy-moody-freaky-dance song, that you can listen to 4x, and then, you're actually sick of it (That's how it was with me X3)
BTW, i believe that 1000 words was the only song composed by uematsu on this game.
Nah, this is one of the few titles where Nobuo wasn't involved at all, even indirectly. In most FF games they have the main "Final Fantasy" theme, the Chocobo music and the Victory fanfare at least. They always have those to some degree, but in X-2 they did away with these and the entire soundtrack, including 1000 words, was composed by Matsueda and Eguchi.
I sort of agree that the soundtrack FITTED, but thats all that's good about it. There are very few pieces that I want to listen to outside of the game environment and whenever I play X-2 I constantly miss those themes. What's the point of riding a Chocobo if you don;t have the Chocobo music? Why have victory music that isn't the victory fanfare? It loses even mroe identity as a Final Fantasy game without these.
I think a good soundtrack is one that you know...you'd actually want to buy. Off the top of my head I can think of a whole bunch of FFIX pieces that I love to listen to, and these are just background musics:
Eternal Harvest
Vamo' Alla Famenco
Bittersweet Romance
Loss of Me
Airship (Hilda Garde)
Black Mage Villiage
Melodies of Life
Dark Messenger
In X-2 there's 1000 words, Real Emotion if I'm in the mood and Eternity. Tha's...it. There's near enough nothing else which is actually a good listen on its own, and THAT'S where the OST falls down.

I liked 1000 words real emotion and eternity. FF10/2 It well sucked. Yuna's not happy until The end when she gets Tidus back, but up until the end we have to put up with Yuna's whinng and moping and day dreaming of her tidus.
