Boy Killed for leaving Gang?

A boy, 12 years old (my age), was killed exicution style for leaving a gang. I learned this in my Media Exploration class today, after we watched a video, the teacher mentioned it since there was a student in the video that was in a gang who left the gang so he could get better grades in school. What are are your thoughts. I think it was realy stupid to kill a kid just because he didn't want to be in the gang anymore...

As much as that sucks, it happens more often than you think. Back when I lived in California, we used to live in some... not so good areas. There would be reports of that stuff all the time. Bascially, with most gangs, the gang is your life, your family, you leave them it's like turning your back on your family and life. They don't like that =/

Yeah this thing happens all the time, Home and Away are featuring it at the moment. This kid wants to get out to study and get a better education but he cant cause he knows what they will do.

Yeah, a gang is your life. Once you join, you've officially signed your life to the devil, so to say. For most gangs, the only two ways out are: a) in a coffin, or b) having a child. Even though they live a life of crime, they don't like ruining the lives of new babies, so they usually let you out if you have a baby. Otherwise, usually, if you try to get out, they'll just shoot you, or kill you some other way. They see it as an act of betrayal.

Also, a lot of crip gangs will use some type of switch blade to carve a "C" into your index knuckle (symbolizing crips, of course). They do this in this spot because you look at your hands at least 50 times a day, and it will always reminds you where you're from.

I live by this apartment complex called "The Jungle", because it's full of drug dealers, thugs, and gang members. Mostly bloods, for the gang members. But July of last year, on the third, someone tried getting out of the Jungle, and the gang, and going to the police, and he was shot dead on my street. He was probably hit about four to five times. O_O

Gangs are definitely a troubling world, and it's definitely not one you would want to visit. I've got a good number of friends involved with this kind of stuff, and so I know that it's no joke. When I was about six years old, and lived in this drug driven apartment complex, since my mother was never out of her room, I was fending on my own (with my sister), for dinner and clothes and other stuff. And there was a gang of bloods who lived in the apartment complex, amongst other gangs. But this gang in particular always looked out for me; they gave me food, money, clothes, toys, and had my back. So, to me, not all gang members are bad people.

As long as you're on the good side of the gang, you're fine... but when you get on their wrong side... you're dead (most of the time...)

Gangs are stupid...Its pains me to hear such a thing...the sad part is that happens everyday we just dont know about it. I myself just pray over such things...and hope for a better tomorrow.

It's a reality depending on the neighborhood and the gang.
Some gangs will beat the hell out of you.
Some gangs will kill you.

Gangs are serious business and getting out alive or unblemished is something nearly impossible. It's a sad reality but it occurs.

Plenty of gang related deaths in the Chicago-land area. It's a mad world.

Must have been a gang of retards really. There are gangs that are formed by a bunch of idiots in order to gain the respect they want by spreading fear. Quite frankly, we live in a world full of punks.

I'm not surprised that the gang killed him, however, I'm mixed in at the fact that he wanted to leave and lead a better life. He could've never joined in the first place and he could've went on living and become one of the greatest surgeons or whatever.

That is just how it is. It sucks but usually these kids know what they are getting into. It is a replacement family for the one they don't have at home or the crappy one they currently have. Talk about a waste... sounds like the kid just wanted better for himself.
