Okay, the city manager of St. Petersburg, Florida, announced about a week ago, if I remember right, that he is having a sex change operation soon and will no longer be named Steve but rather Susan instead.

He is now being dismissed from his position by order of the majority vote by the city council (excluding the mayor, who believes he, or she, is still capable of doing a good job) with many council members saying that "they no longer trust his judgment." They're saying he lied about it by not telling them, yet announcing to everyone you're going to have a sex change is very difficult indeed and should be understandable.

What are your opinions?

Ok, not telling someone something that is really none of their business is not lying to them, telling them something different instead of telling them the truth is lying. He was keeping it a secret because it's not easy to come out like that, so i don't think he was lying, but wa sjust having difficulty with it.

it's a shame that close minded people think less of others because they make personal decisions about who they are

I know it's not quite to the same scale, but in the UK we're supposed to have much stricter laws on this kind of thing

I think so too.
I can see both viewpoints though, his boss probably thought "This will make a lot of people/customers uncomfortable if they know", making them lose customers, and since it's all about the raking in of money nowadays he was kicked out of office.
That doesn't mean I think it was the right thing to do...
Dunno what I feel about sex changes in general, some people just feel that they're born in the wrong body, and act really masculine/feminine and may be really unhappy. I don't know what that feels like, so I can't really judge. But I think it is rather cruel to kick him out because of that =/
