I bought it for 360 on amazon just to try it out. So any good advice? Kind of sucks that I always start things late -_-;;;

Late? You're starting XI at a good time. It's a lot different than it was a few years ago...a lot easier (though still not easy).
The prices are down rather low compared to the uber high ones we had a few years ago (except for the weapon I need of course XD highest price for all servers =w= ). Also, when I started we didn't have goodies like empress band etc (which increases your exp).
Advice I can give you...

1) If you level a mage job: keep your magic capped, don't make the mistake I did and end up having to cap it later for over 20 lvls.
Sometimes when you use magic you get "<Yourname>'s <thisandthat> magic skill raises 0.2 points".
To check if your magic is capped, go to the menu > Status > Magic Skill. If it's capped it will be blue.

2) Melee: Same as for mage jobs , except with weapons (you can skillup weapons on a mage as well but it's not as important).
For Warrior: Keep great Axe and Axe capped.
Thief: Dagger and Sword
Dragoon: Polearm (optional to skill sword and staff but absolutely not necessary til MUCH later in the game)
Samurai: Great Katana (optional polearm)
Monk: Durr, Hand to Hand
etc etc

I can give you advice on macros for either melee or mage (I'm a 74 Dragoon main, and 72 WHM and 51 PLD) and what kind of gear to look for.

Advice to earn gil: Get Signet from one of the gate guards, kill monsters outside town and sell the crystals.

Careful there Nataku, you might have to lookup Muninn instead...he changes jobs every few days :P
Btw, if you need a worldpass to Fenrir just ask. My character names are Saeki (Mithra Dragoon) and Mirae (Hume White Mage/Paladin).

Worldpass? Hun, you forget about the update? No more need for a worldpass anymore, remember? :P Just choose fenrir off the server list option. =D

Lol thx guys for your assistance, I'll check into fenrir when I get it. I wont get the game in the mail till next week soo ^^;;; My real problem is figuring out the basics...the race and the classes...

Been arguing with my significant other about either making Male Elf or Mithra (just going to use one character to save time and effort)...then theres melee or magic...gah. Assitance in those areas plz. Any race benefits? Any class advantages?

Piece of advice: Pick a race that you think looks nice. Base stats matter very little at higher levels, and can be made up for with gear; however, this doesn't mean that some races get it as easy as others.

Elves and Galka for instance, might be harder to afford levelling a mage. They have much less MP than the other races. However you can get Ether Rings and such (MP+35) at lvl 10 and they are pretty needed for those races. One of my friends is a Galka WHM and he does excellent.
Also for WHM, Elvaan has the highest MND (main stat for WHM) to balance out for lack of MP.

Galka have arguably the best base stats for a melee job.

Hume and Mithra are classes that don't really excel at anything~ Hume especially has all-round stats and could do any job rather easily. Mithra has less STR (Strength), but more DEX (Dexterity) than hume.

Taru have the most MP of any race, but less HP and STR than any other race.

Hope this helps and ask if you have any other questions and I'll try my best...

yup that helps alot. Im confused by the WHM and MND...I think I need to be taught what they mean if its not too much trouble ^^;;

Well also I like magic but I love melee also...any suggestions on which classes would best suit me. (I have to try them both out I know because on WoW I thought I loved melee but ended up loving caster classes way more so I just made a hunter which is kind of a blend)

If you want a blend of melee and mage, I'd go Blue Mage. It's a melee class that also learns spells off the mobs and uses then in conjuction with their melee skills. I'll give you a few links that you will find very usefull for helping decide and learn about things in the game.

Jobs (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Jobs)

Races (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?cat=35) This will give you a general description of the races and their starting stats. It will also contain general discussions about the races.

The two sites you might find the most useful are:

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Main_Page

I myself prefer the second one for most of my information. The first is good for a forum where you can ask questions and look up great information from other players.

Oh yeah, sorry
WHM = White Mage, MND = Mind, the main stat for a WHM - it boosts up your cures and stuff.
Might as well list the shortenings of every job here to make it easier for you, since they're used a lot.
WHM = WHite Mage, RDM = Red Mage, BLM = Black Mage, WAR = Warrior, THF = Thief, MNK = Monk, DRG = Dragoon, PLD = paladin, DRK = Dark Knight, SAM = Samurai, SMN = Summoner, COR = Corsair, BLU = Blue Mage, PUP = Gimp (j/k, Puppetmaster)

as Muninn there said if you want both spells and melee Blue Mage, Paladin of Dark Knight might be for you.

If you like Melee + Magic, I would suggest Dark Knight, people seem to like them alot. Blue Mage when I played was very powerful, at around 15-30, you also have the choice of being able to tank too, if you sub war and learn a certain spell that I heard is good for tanking low levels, I dont know about high levels.

With Dark Knight, you need to be very careful about aggro management though, I guess it goes with all classes/jobs but I heard Dark Knight is the worse.

One thing about Blue Mage, you need the Aht Urghan expansion to unlock that, and what you need just as much...patience, my god lol.
Sometimes it takes ages to learn a spell, and you gotta travel a lot to learn spells. Since you're new to the game it might be a good idea not to buy any extra expansions yet - see if you LIKE the game first.

Lol thx. I just want to try it to say I played ever FF and hoping I will enjoy it enough to keep playign, also I think I got tired of how WoW was easy and unfullfilling towards the end of my play. Just playing alone is not what I want in an online game sure you dont have too but alot of the times you are. I rarely had ppl come up to me to party up, and when I would ask they usually said no....whoops sry for the my WoW experience insight ^^;
