View Full Version : Chocobo breeding problems
OK, I have spent about two afternoons trying to breed chocobos to get a gold one. So far I have 1 green chocobo and 4 yellow. I looked up formulas for breeding and they seem to not work. I tryed the 1 great female and 1 good male combineation for a green and got it. Tried 1 great male and 1 good female and got a blue one but it was the same gender. So I reset. And ever since then every combination just gives me a yellow one. I use mostly the carob nut but I tried a few others and no differnece. The ones I am breeding are all rank C too. My great male is Rank B now cause I tried to level up a male and female but the female always loses and is to slow. I used the same about of the same greens are her too. I don't know.
If any of this made sence say "I".
And if you can help in anyway either by advice, experience or just a URL it would much appreciated! Thanks!

^_^ You've got to race and win to get your chocobo's lever up and you have to have a black chocobo to get a gold one. :D
Details:
1. Go to the Chocobo ranch south of Midgar and purchase at least four stables from Chocobo Bill.
2. Equip one of your party members with the Chocobo Lure materia Bill gives you.
3. Find some Chocobo tracks on the world map and walk over them until you get into a fight.
4. Enter battle and look for a strange-looking yellow bird among the enemies. If you see it, proceed to step 5. If not, get into another fight.
5. Kill the enemies as quickly as possible, making sure not to harm the Chocobo. If you kill them fast enough, you will win the Chocobo.
6. Return to the Chocobo ranch and place your new Chocobo in the stable.
7. Talk to Chocobo Bill. If he says, "Mmm, this one's not bad" or "This is a pretty average Chocobo," keep the Chocobo. If he says neither of these things, release it.
8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 until you have a breeding pair of Chocobos described by Chocobo Bill as "Mmm, this one's not bad" or "This is a pretty average Chocobo."
9. Fly to the Chocobo Sage's hut north of the Bone Village.
10. Buy as many Sylkis greens as you can from the Chocobo Sage.
11. Return to the farm and feed your Chocobos the Sylkis greens until their statistics are as high as they can go.
12. Fly to the Golden Saucer Casino and enter your Chocobos in the Chocobo races.
13. Race your Chocobos until they both become Class A Chocobos.
14. Fly to the small forested island due south of the Chocobo Ranch.
15. Equip one of your party members with the steal command materia.
16. Walk in the forest until you get into a fight with a band of Goblins.
17. Steal a Zeio nut from the Goblins.
18. Fly to the Chocobo farm.
19. Save your game.
20. Breed your two Chocobos, feeding them the Zeio nut. This should produce either a green or a blue Chocobo. If it doesn't, reload the game and try again.
21. Save your game.
22. Repeat steps 14 to 19 until you have two different Chocobos of different colors and sexes (a blue male and green female or vice versa).
23. Repeat steps 9 to 18 with your new green and blue Chocobos.
24. Breed the green and blue Chocobos, feeding them the Zeio nut. This should produce a black Chocobo. If it doesn't, reload the game and try again.
25. Repeat steps 9 to 12 with your new black Chocobo.
26. Race your black Chocobo until it becomes Class S.
27. Fly to the Bone Village.
28. Get in a fight in the plains outside the Bone Village with a monster called a Vlakorados.
29. Steal a Carob nut from the Vlakorados.
30. Return to the Chocobo ranch.
31. Save your game.
32. Breed the black Class S Chocobo with a yellow Class A Chocobo, using the Carob nut. This should finally produce the Golden Chocobo. If it doesn't, reload your game and try again.

I've copied some information from GameFAQ's
7. How to Obtain the Ocean (Gold) Chocobo
This is quicker than the Black Chocobo. Feed the Black Chocobo with as much Sylkis as you can, until his stats are at maximum (again, if you get only "They are getting along better" after a feeding, it means that the Chocobo is at its maximum), then make it run at the Golden Saucer and reach at least class A (at this point, reaching class S should be easy enough). After reaching class A, go to the Icicle Area and hunt a Wonderful (1 or 2 Jumping) Chocobo of the opposite sex of your Black Chocobo. Feed it with as much Sylkis as you can afford (at this point you might have spent something like 400.000 gil) or, much better, to its limit, and make it run at the Golden Saucer, reaching class S. Save before Mating these two Chocobos, because the chance of getting the Gold are lower than the others (I think that if you do things the right way, the chance for getting River and Mountain Chocobos are something like 100%). Mate the Black Chocobo and your Wonderful Chocobo with a Zeio Nut and you will finally gain a Gold Chocobo (if you spent a lot on Sylkis, it should be some kind of monster with a top speed around 190-200 and stamina
around 1500)!!!.
It might take around 4 hours to get the Gold Chocobo. Many people say that it's needed much more because they do not know that the Quality of a Chocobo is linked to the monsters it comes with. you can go here to read the whole Guide (http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/final_fantasy_vii_chocobo.txt)
also there is another option...
Beat Ruby Weapon and Take Desert Rose to the old man in Kalm

You need to get them (blue and green chocobo) to rank A and then let them mate. Then you'll get a black chocobo. Just make sure the blue and green chocobo are male and female or the opposite. If not, reset and try again.

OH I totaly forgot about that! But you know, Sitting for hours breeding is a lot easier than fighting Ruby Weapon. The Prize you get for Emerald Weapon is much more worthwhile (what.. what was it again?)
Master summons I believe. I looked at a few walkthroughs. :D
Thanks for all the suggestions I'll get right on them. And I already checked out the one on this website....Stupid me for forgetting the name of the forum I'm even at.

Yeah, I hope the guide on the site helps. I'm currently writing a guide on racing chocobos and feeding them and what not to help clear up everything said in the breeding guide. Also, it helps a lot to feed your chocobos greens that will give them more stamina, speed, and intelligence before racing. It makes it much more eaiser. I raced all my chocobos to at least Class A when breeding, and it worked every single time. :)

I'm pretty sure pressing all the L and R buttons make you go faster or something.
I know pressing R1 and R2 makes them go a little slower but regenerates stamina. But if your able to do that your usually so far ahead you don't need it. Thats just from my experiances.
I hope that Guide your writing works out too Dark Matter!
Chocobo Breeding is easy, to get a coloured chocobo your parent chocobo's NEED to be a minimum of A class for it to work. its almost impossible to get a female blue and green chocobo, since the game will always make the second chocobo the opposite sex and colour than the other. holding R1 & R2 will triple the stamina regeneration of your chocobo so it is possible to sprint half the course and pretty much walk the rest and still win.
trading the desert rose to the man in kalm will get you a gold chocobo, the earth harp gets you master command, magic & summon materia.

OH yeah the materia that lets you have every single move.
I did it. I got a gold chocobo finally! Took forever. But now I am having problems trying to find places to level up materia so I can fight the weapons. One problem after another I guess.

Okay, you know that place where the black materia was and it sucked in Caitsith? oops, wrong place....
no..
Yeah, okay:
The Place where you can get the flare materia and there's a white chocobo. It's a little village near a forest. If you fight the monsteres in the area before that village you can gain a lot of AP and they're pretty easy.
Of course if you're going to attempt to beat theweapons: forget Ruby Wepon becaus eyou already have a gold chocobo and ruby's a lot of hassel.
Prepare for emerald wepon, it's arguably the hardest in the game.
You'll need:
Knights of the Round
Ultima
Quadra-Magic
Mimic (Copy or whatever it's called that copies the last attack)
reflectx2 ( guess that's an FF9 tearm, but I think there's a materia that makes reflected magic stronger.
I'm pretty sure you cast Knights, Copy that, Cast 4 ultimas on the reflected person and... After that I don't remember. I haven't read a guide for this game in over 2 years.

You should make a new topic about that...
Like Sixthcrusifix said, Mideel Area is a good place to level up materia. Also the crater is a nice place, especially the area where you get those bouncers. Defeat those and you'll receive a lot of AP.
Meh, I decided to just go beat sepheroth. Its my first time doing it so I'm quiet happy.

AH Mideel, I've never been good with names. :F
Well That's cool, Sephy is hard but he don't hold a candle to the weapons. You did get knights of teh round didn't you though? Because that would have made it much easier I think. . . then again I ... I dont' remember I never got a golden chocobo the first time I played through and I don't remember my second time. . . Well Sephy isn't hard anyway as long as you're at level 55 at least.

I never did defeat ruby weapon...Emerald was pretty easy seeing as how I could just pound on him with lvl. 4 limit breaks and knights of the round, but with ruby I had to wait to attack so I couldn't deal as much damage, and then he always kept killing my characters...I keep getting slaughtered every time.
Well Sephy isn't hard anyway as long as you're at level 55 at least.
50. I killed the git two days ago, for the first time.
I hate Supernova... whenever he used it, I got up, went to the loo, went downstairs, got a drink, went back upstairs and he still wasn't done.

Heh heh... I was in computing that morning, and we were given some nasty homework. So I turned to sprog, and said:
"I'll do it in supernova!"
Anyway, slightly on topic, I'm also having trouble breeding those damn Chocobos. Partly because I have little idea what to do. No, it's not what you're thinking, I know that "when a mummy chocobo and a daddy chocobo love each other very much..."
I'm not exactly the best namer of Chocobos either. When the first baby one was born, I named it 'Onion'.
