I'm really not sure if there was a thread about Square Soft or not but here I am making one just in case! Anyways, I was digging through my Playstation 1 games the other day and I noticed that most of my all time favourite titles were created by Square Soft.
I really miss Square Soft, even though still exist with the merged company of Square Enix but SS always had there differenced when it came to games.
Anyways, here is a thread if you want to talk about the Square Soft games.. I'll go first:
Has anyone ever played the game, Threads of Fate (PSX game)?

Yes, I prefer SS over SE. But I wouldn't say that they "suck," I guess over time we tend to have higher demands for games their selves and the creativeness does get lost somewhere. Maybe Enix wasn't so quick to jump the boat when it came to new developed storylines, etc?
With that being said, I am honestly a little worried to where games, or RPGs are heading.. Just lately, they haven't been satisfying me, could the end be near? :(

I'm glad somebody brought this up. It truly is one of my favorite discussion topics.
Put simply, since Squaresoft fused with Enix (thus making the unholy Satan-spawn known as Square Enix), their games have lacked the flair that the first games had. Examples? I liked KH2 more than KH1, but this is one of the more obvious examples. In the game itself, everything was given a mission-style layout, something that SS did not do in these kinds of RPGs.
More examples? Gladly~
Final Fantasy XII. >> need I say more?
Anyway, back to original Squaresoft games, did anyone play the Parasite Eve series? And in response to Angelic's question, I played the demo, but not the actual game.
ah..good ol' suqare...made us FFVII and so much better games but i still like enix

OKAY on a side note - forgive me in advance because I am REALLY tired!
But I am a little confused, I'm not exactly sure if you are for or against Square Enix taking over?
Like I said, I am really tired :(
And nope haven't tried Parasite Eve, I was about to back then but never did. Is it good?

PE2 is my favourite PS1 game ever. Seriously.
Final Fantasy 12 was good, it was a nice change. The main characters were just NPC like and the additional party members where the actual heroe's / story based. The battle system was nice and quickening's was a nice change. FF12 was just a huge change from all over FF's, but it still had the FF elements the rest of them had.
People don't like change, which is why they have an eppy about it.
But yeah, Sephy-Kun your post is contradicting. You say square-enix is satan spawned, yet you say you prefer KH2 to KH1. So you haven't exlpained anything and it's just gobble basically.
"I hate square-enix, but I love their games" /cough?
Both companies have released good games, but it's just mixed. SS made bad games SE makes some bad games. I mean Star Ocean was awesome, the one made by square-enix and the soon-to-be-released star ocean looks just as good. I'm pretty neutral to be honest, the merge didnt bother me as I've liked all games played by them so far.

I agree....in my opinion I see both companies as good and bad...Each company has its ups and downs, and square enix has its own, so did square soft

Angelic-
Against, completely against, and no worries, everyone's tired at some point or another ^^
Tharrick-
You and I must talk.
soon XD
Dusk-
Sorry to disappoint you, Dusk, but KH2 is a follow up to KH1 which was a Squaresoft work. Furthermore, its a sequel, which, in most cases for me, is better than the original.
Don't confuse liking their games with liking a game made by them ^^ there is a difference, believe me.

I'm giving some serious thought to starting an RP based on PE2, following the adventures of a group of MIST agents - but I'm worried that everybody in the game will piss and moan when I point out that they can't have awesome mitochondria powers.

Tharrick, I already asked in the RP suggestions thread, but we seriously must talk in private soon XD
Anyway, what about PE1, did you play it too?

Never got the chance to play PE1 :(
never heard PE...is it an SS game?

Tharrick-
Thats a shame, mate. If you can find it cheap, I definitely recommend it- seriously.
Genesis-
Parasite Eve came out shortly after FFVII did, released by SS- as was the sequel. The first took place in modern time (1997 or so, forgot the actual dates XD) New York on Manhatten and has to deal with a sort of horror/sci-fi story. The game itself falls under semi-real time ATB battle system RPG and Survival Horror- though PE2 falls more under the SH than RPG.

Yes, its definitely not the typical RPG. I think thats probably the reason why I never played it in the first place :P it takes time to get used to not playing RPGs. But when I first look at it, it reminds me of Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus... Well the way the set up is, definitely not the storyline.. :P

After the merge from Square with Enix I think the quality of the games didn't really differ much from before the merger.
I don't agree that Enix sucks. They have contributed some good series like Dragon Quest, Grandia, Star Ocean.
The only problem that is still playing is that they didn't release some good games here in Europe (like Grandia III) and that needs to change.

Yes, I DON'T hate Square Enix, they have released some pretty impressive games, like the ones Zidane listed but I just don't like what they have done to the Final Fantasy series.
I think they focus more on the gameplay more than everything else, well of Final Fantasy. I have been playing through some Final Fantasy VII - and yes I have noticed a different. Near the part where I am now, where I just finished telling the story about Sephiroth, and now traveling to Junon (well I just had Mr. Dolphin carry me to the top of the tower), I feel anticipated to fight. I find that its so long for the next boss fight and the story keeps slowing the wait down. It's like I'm literally blood thirsty - but I am so use to it from playing the more recent released FF VII games. I usually spend like at least 80 hours on that game, about 70% of those hours, I spend on fighting (fighting bosses, being in a dungeon and leveling up, or sometimes making gil depending on the game). It gets repetitive and when you finally uncover parts of the story, you either feel really drained out from fighting or its like a golden treat for you (or a break), so you tend to have high expectations after awhile for the story (to keep you on track for playing the game).
I really just hope that the games don't become super hard, and you end up getting stories that aren't very satisfying, or the story is sloppy. It would just seem worthless to play after awhile...
