FFXI Relic Weapon Mandau

I don't have much to show yet, just thought i post my idea here,
im planning to make a knife in 3D called Mandau from FFXI

right now doing some research on it.
was pretty funny to see that the actual Mandau is a sword and not a knife

Mandau was used in Borneo by the Dayak.
so the signs on the Mandau i want to make I want to be real Dayak signs...
if anybody here knows what language they speak in Borneo please tell me, that would help alot haha
if you know the name of the language/signs they used in the old times your my Hero!!!
(i know allready it falls in the Austronesian catagory but a little more precise would be awesome)

1 = the Mandau from Final Fantasy FFXI
2 = the original Mandau from Borneo

I want to make a mix between the 2 of those, it has to be recognizable as the Mandau from FFXI cause this is a Game forum but i want to make it a little more towards the original Mandau from Borneo.

this is a side project im actually planning on making my whole Thief character from FFXI (not that i have a Mandau, like i wish) just going to aproach every piece as a different project

ill will post my progress in here, and hope you guys will give me advise and pointers about things that could be better, and ill see if i can adjust it, if not ill just flame you for mentioning it :upset:

Yes, but does it randomly x3 crit, give access to the Mercy Stroke weapon skill, or have a very potent additional effect of poison?!

got myself a Wacom pencil last week so i have been kinda busy trying to figure out how that thing works

now trying to draw some mandaus to see what kind of shape i want to get, first made a couple drawings of the original one to get familiar with the shapes, will post some more later this week, maybe try to get a start on the 3D model if my work allows me to have some free time

today i finally found some signs wich I believe are from the region where the Dayak lived.

they mention 3 languages the Dayak tribes spoke, there are more but those 3 where I think the most common, these languages are Iban, Kenyah and Ma'anjan.
I went for Ma'anjan because that was the most spoken language by them.

couldnt find any Fonts with "old" signs from that language (not like i thought for a second i would find something like that very easily) but i stumbled accidently on a person named Christian Dahl a expert in languages from Norway who believes a stone found on the Island Banka close to Sumatra has old-Ma'anjan
signs on it... and since im tired of looking around for the signs ill just let him have the benefit of the doubt :D

the stone is called Kota Kapur and dates back to the year 686 v. Chr. and you can find it in the national museum in Jakarta.

I dont know what the signs mean so i will just take some random signs away from it to use, they wont have any meaning.

Sorry for all the blabla (in case nobody cares about it), but if I do a project I like to do it right :)

I got mine just from a local store, here the most computerstores have em.
Mine is called a Wacom Bamboo, pretty pleased with it I might say so.

Here my first actual 3D try out,
Just made a compilation of signs from the stone wich i liked, it doesn't mean anything as i dont know what the signs say.

first the signs i copied in Photoshoped and made the better recognisable for myself, on the second one can see how the same signs look in Basic 3D render (i put on the first and last sign myself basicly to give it a nice clean start and ending, to me it looked very abrupt ending without it)

probably have more free time soon and will be working more on it, hope to finish it soon, think making the model would not be that much of a problem, maybe some difficulty with the textures, lighting and rendering systems and such, but i have faith in it hehe
