360 Controller on XP/Vista

I take it's fairly straightforward with a wired controller. I was wondering if there was anyway of doing it with a wireless controller (using the Play & Charge Kit) or do I need to buy that adapter?

i don't think it can be done with a wireless controller because the wireless controllers activate by finding the console itself.
