Which one is best? I don't know which. 2003 is good because it's easier to use, XP is more confusing, and the database window is too big for your screen which is a put down, so I can't decide which one to stick with. I've used XP more though, 2003 makes me look old and boring ;) Lol.

As for the database window being to big I remember downloading a patch/fix that solved that.

Well, I haven't used RPG Maker XP much, don't understand a thing about Ruby Scripting... I've played a Japanese game and it looks mighty good, but still basic chipsets, but no more 256 colors images is much better.
I still have a game that I have to complete with RPG Maker 2003, so I'll stick to that one.

I use both RPG maker 2000, 2003 and XP, and XP can be quite confusing I have to say, RPG maker 2000 and 2003 are much easier =P Just like Ziddy, I have a game to complete on 2000, and 2003 first =P

I prefer RM2k3. It's simple and it's what I'm use to working with.
I tried working with XP but it confused me shitless.

I used to play around with 2003 quite a bit... really should get back into it and have a go, something to rid the silence in my life.

It's not too big it's just that you have your screen set on a low resolution. Most people have theirs on 1024x768, your must be on 800x600 or soomething.

XP has better support, better looks and is WAY COOLER and 2003 is easier and is WAY more customizable because it's not too hard to make sprites. Making sprites for XP is horrible because they are more detailed than pixil art but less detailed than regular didgital art.

XP is more customizable...and its easy..its pretty much the same to 2003 event-wise

I like both of them. But I prefer XP.

I was looking AT it more from an artistic perspective. it's WAY easier to make custome sprites etc. for 2000/2003 because the graphics are better and harder to make on XP. But as far as how the game goes yes I suppose XP has almost unlimite capabilities.

But you're wrong about the script thingy, a little. You see the version I have on my home computer works with 1024x768 just fine, everything I can see. But I DID notice that on my dad's CPU I can't see it. I must hav gotten one with the fixing patch or something. Maybe I'll post a link with my files and you can see if putting them on yours will allow the script manager to fully show with 1024x768 screen res. 2003 rocks but battle sprites are a bitch, you could just not give them battle sprites and use the battle style that shows faces though.

EDIT:

oh. lol, see, I must have gotten the fixed one.

You don't need it though, well sorta. but if you can't see the buttons for the database or the script screen you can just click on the top of the window and press enter and it will be just like pressing OK. :D

I've never really gotten into XP, just kind of stuck to what I know on 2003. I think I have only ever completed 1 game on any RPG maker, and it was pretty crap to say the least.

alexanderpas

the first game is ALWAYS crap (some exceptions excepted :D)

Right now I'm thinking of maybe continueing with my game which is already a 3 years in production. But I'm thinking of doing it in RPG Maker XP maybe instead of 2003. Problem is I have an illegal version right now that is not 100% English (ruby scripting for example). Is it really worth buying it or not? If you look at the time I'm spending to it not. Haven't done anything to my game in months...

RPG maker got kind of boring after awhile, having to draw all the little animations. I used the old on RPGmaker2000. I hated the battle style. So korny.

Anyways the new one RM2K3 was pretty kool, still tough though. The battle is like FF style which is way better.

Is the RPG Maker XP 3d? I forgot how it looks like

Dusk

RPG Maker XP is sitll 2D just better quality and lets you script the game how you want.

Ruby Game Scripting System AKA RGSS is the script cat. for rpgm xp. they say you can even set the max hp or damage or anything like that above the normal max. like ff X . it give you more freedom and it's fun to play with, like changing the max size of your fighter for example.

marcel

can you show me some skills or send a tutori to me about rgss ?

I'll stick with 2003... the customization isn't as good, but switches still somewhat confuse me so I doubt that I can work the RGSS script.

I prefer XP for the main reason that it has better graphics except I miss the movie adding thing and the side battles.

I like RPG Maker 2000 more, but out of those two, I like RPG Maker 2003. I'm not a really big RMXP user because it seems to bland for me.

Thats because you edit it yourself....RMXP has a scripting function where you make scripts, change the looks etc...for a better look rather than the plain RPGM2000/03

RPGXP is much better, mainly because there's a script option plus it's easier to configure the battle-system.
Although depending on which version you get, RPGXP can either be good or rubbish.

rpg xp, and 2003 would take too long to download for my computer

but i want to try it out and i think im just going to download it anyway, although it may take a day or so..
i cant wait.. though.

i cant wait.. though.the biggest part of the DL is the RTP, the part you'll need to be able to play the games and the graphichs which you use to create (crappy, make grapchics yourself ;)) games.
the smallest part of the download is the progam itself.

The RPG Maker 2003 version I got is 29 MB, almost as big as RPG Maker XP. I'm using RPG Advocate's version. There's an extra RTP package for RPG Maker 2000 that works with RPG Maker 2003 too, which is 7 MB.

I know how dialup is, I had it for 3 years. Now I can be on the net all the time.

Heh, I know how you feel. I was like that ages ago when I first wanted RPG Maker --The problem being at the time finding it, not downloading. (It took days for me to find).

Yup, great when you finally get rid of the dial-up, eh?

It's weird to think back and remember the days when I could only go online after 6PM. Good thats well in the past! ^_^

Zidane007nl

There is no official English website of RPG Maker 2000 or 2003. Only for RPG Maker XP: www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/RPG_XP/eng/ (http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/RPG_XP/eng/). You can download the trial version there. Buying it will cost you $60 USD.

And what does that mean?!
