Okay, basically post your five favourite bands but also give an explanation on why they are your favourite bands and what you like about them so much, like a couple of sentences or so =/ Also post a few of your favourite songs from them if you wish.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
- I love the Chili Peppers <3 Seriously they're like so goddamn awesome, I mean often I prefer listening to some harder stuff, but still I just love their songs. The lyrics are so complex and strange, which is a good thing and what I like about their lyrics. The music is well just simply great, it's not like it's the best instrumentals i've heard, but when put with the lyrics and vocals it's great. And Anthony Kiedis has some pretty interesting and unique vocals so he's just awesome. And Flea is a great bassist and guitarist, simply put.
>> Favourite Songs
- Suck My Kiss
- By The Way
- Under The Bridge
- Californication
- Around The World

- Get On Top
- Purple Stain
- Fight Like A Brave
- Love Rollercoaster
- Aeroplane
- Prob. a few others i'm forgetting
Guns N' Roses
- Come on, you gotta love the 80's. They are one of the greatest rock bands to like ever exist, seriously. They have like some of the most awesomest instrumentals i've ever friggen heard, I love it. And Axl's vocals are pretty good, he's got a really good rock voice. Can't forget Slash's guitar skills, I brand him as one of the best guitarists in the world, so you know he makes the band pretty damn good too. GN'R.FOR.LIFE.BABY.
>> Favourite Songs
- Paradise City
- Sweet Child O'Mine
- Nightrain
- Welcome To The Jungle
- My Michelle
- Yesterdays
- November Rain
- Don't Cry
- Sympathy For The Devil
- You Could Be Mine
- Think About You
- Madagascar
- Mr. Brownstone
- Prob. a few others
Velvet Revolver
- Okay so they're pretty much kind of like a remake of Guns N' Roses except without Axl's vocals and Adler's drums, well according to some people's opinon =/ But for me, they're kind of like GN'R, but in a way also different. Okay their style is like awesome, hard rock is some of the best music so you know that's a plus about them. Once more Scott Weiland's vocals are pretty damn good, not like Axl's, but it's still just as awesome, it's got that hard rock feeling to it. And of course the instrumentals are somewhat similar, but also different and obviously they're goddamn great. With Slash in this band, that gives it another bonus feeling to it <3
>> Favourite Songs
- Slither
- Come On, Come In
- Big Machine
- Dirty Little Thing
- Fall To Pieces
- Do It For The Kids
- Set Me Free
AFI
- In a way they're punk, but still their music is so unique from other bands that you really can't brand them in a genre. They're usually not my style of music, but I just love AFI. Darvey Harvok seriously has some nice vocals, once more great, but different to like Axl Rose or Scott Weiland, it's somewhat mixed a bit, too. The instrumentals are pretty unique and awesome aswell. Hunter is one hell of a bassist I tell ya, gotta love his stuff there <3 Also the lyrics are so... just so good, xP. They've got some meaning into and complexity.

- Now The World
- This Time Imperfect

Nirvana
- Come on people, it's Nirvana, you HAVE to love them. Kurt Cobain seriously has some awesome vocals and lyrics. And their instrumentals are also like awesome, with their own style and everything - grunge rock I think it is or something. This band friggen revolutionized the 90's man, come on! Dave Grohl is a pretty nice guitarist, I love his work in Nirvana and so are the rest of the guys, xP. The guitars are like usually somwhat hard rock with low notes and everything, love it, man, simply love it <3

- Lithium

- Half The Man I Used To Be
- Rape Me

JJ72
Anyone that knows me will know I worship this band... and I seem to be the only person that's heard of them. They seriously rock, the sound that these three Irish people create is just amazing, Mark Greaney's vocals are some of the most amazing that I have ever heard, they've already had two amazing albums and their third one, out soon, is going to be their best by the three songs I've heard from it so far (Heat, She's Gone and Coming Home). Everyone should check these out...

Favourite Songs...
• Formulae (Album = I to Sky)
• Serpent Sky (I to Sky)
• October Swimmer (JJ72)

• Heat (New Album)
• She's Gone (New Album)
• Algeria (JJ72)
• Willow (JJ72)

**** it... all their songs rock.

Muse
Muse! Goddamn... another three piece band... they have this sound that is just.. amazing, I don't know how three people can create such a 'massive' sound. Three albums down, one more left before they call it quits... I have to see these guys live!

Favourite Songs...
• New Born (Origin of Symmetry)
• Futurism (B-side)
• Hyper Music (Origin of Symmetry)

The Arcade Fire
Seeing is believing with this band... their recordings are so amazing, with strings... piano... bass.. guitar... motorcycle helmets... bent cymbals... all merging into one amazing sound. Live, they're something else, packed full of energy... jumping on the audience, climbing up PA speakers... going pretty much mental. They rock.

• Rebellion (Lies) (Funeral)
• Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels) (Funeral)
• No Cars Go (The Arcade Fire EP)
• Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out) (Funeral)

• Paranoid Android (OK Computer)
• High and Dry (The Bends)

Last band... uhmmmmmmm

Bloc Party
Oh noes! Britpop / Indie! OMG NOOOOOO! These guys rock. Sure, their guitarist is a Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead wannabe, but who gives a shit? Makes them better that they have weird solos in and stuff. They're also not afraid of trying something new, but could go a lot further. Their bass lines rock, and their drummer is very toight.

Favourite Songs...
• Like Eating Glass (Silent Alarm)
• Banquet (Silent Alarm)
• Helicopter (Silent Alarm)
• Little Thoughts (EP)
• Luno (Silent Alarm)
• The Price of Gasoline (Silent Alarm)

Muse
A hella lot of music coming from a three headed band... I especially admire the skills of Bellamy who actually plays the piano and guitar at the same time while he's singing some extreme high solo.

- Shine acoustic
- Muscle Museum
- Citizen erased
- cave
- sunburn
- endlessly
- twin
- Map of your head
- yes please
- Hyper (chrondiac) music
- do we need this
- dead star
- agitated
- coma
- filip
- shrinking universe
- micro cuts
- recess
- pink ego box
- sing for absolution
- apocalypse please
- butterflies and hurricanes
- ruled by secrecy
- megalomania
- thoughts of a dying atheist
- the small print
- hysteria
- ...

and so on

Offspring
The old version of 'the offspring'. A punkrock band who quit in 1994 if I'm not mistaking, and started short after 'The offspring'.

- smash
- nitro
- bad habit
- Jennifer Lost The War
- tehran
- beheaded

The offspring
... call it offspring2 or whatever. Another great band, also with leadsinger Dexter Holland and guitarist Noodles.

- Americana
- The kids aren't allright
- Pretty fly
- I want you bad
- All I Want
- Leave It Behind
- Mota
- ...

That's actually the only 3 bands I listen to^^

oh my....what a brilliant thread.....you rock Auzzy-x! yes i shall now call you that!! ha ha

where was i? ah yes, favourite bands.

Cradle of filth

I only recently discovered this band, but i bought all the albums immediatly, after my money went up/ the msuic they make is somewhat amazing crossed over with, it will never get old.

any song from these is good, i recommend all!!!

Muse

ah, possible the best band in their catergory, whcih so happens to be "best live act" (they actually won this...how odd! :D)

they were amazing, and inspiring to watch play live, and matthew bellamy never ceases to show me how damn good he was.....and i caught his pick!!!

i recommend all of showbiz, and origin of symmetry, but absolutuion isn't as good. it still has the best 3 damn songs ever made by them. but that's it.

just love them!!!

The Beatles

getting into the early years now....i have loved this band since i was 3....hear me!! 3!!!

and i still love them today....if you do not know who the beatles are.....you should be already dead

if you do not own their no 1's album, you shoudl be dead.

if you don't like them....why not?! they are the perfect example of what music started off as and how it has changed.

absolutely incredible.

in the words of lennon, god rest his soul, "imagine"

Trivium

as bizz said, it is possibly the best thing to happen to metal for ages, and for a band so young, they ahve so much potential to beat even the greatest of metal bands.

i recommend all of ascendancy (2005)

and the song sword, which i adore!!!! :P

the arcade fire

damn, they kick ass. win butlers is a genius, the song power out is a genius, and they are so awesome, they should almost be gods!!!

i'm not sure why i like them, but i guess it's the creative spark, they let off when playing.

recommended:
Power out (neighborhood #3)
laika (neighborhood #2)
rebellion lies
and tunnels (neighborhood #1)

i have tons more, but the next five would be:

franz ferdinand,
the strokes,
Led zeppelin,

My favourite bands change very often, so I'll just stick with the three that have stuck with me for sometime now. Since I've been into music, these three bands have all had a good influence on me.

Jane's Addiction

Now, yeah...fair enough. They ain't around anymore but their music to me, kinda makes me who I am. Perry Farrell was a very flamboyant kinda guy and I guess in some ways I am, and then the band had the darker looking people such as Dave Navarro, who's a great influence to me. The five songs that had me hooked originally though are:-

- Just Because
- Pets
- Jane Says
- Been Caught Stealing
- The Price I Pay

Def Leppard

It was my Mum and Dad who got me into them, by getting me the CD about a year ago. Since then, I rarely played it but at some point I just thought give them a try, and they've became a well loved band of mine. The songs that the Sheffield Lads got me into were:-

- Long, Long Way To Go
- Animal
- Pour Some Sugar On Me
- Action

Muse

I am by no means WHATSOEVER, as big a fan as anyone I know, but Muse has never gone out of fashion with me and it's no surprise. Matt Bellamy is totally inspirational with his piano, his guitar and his words. Wolstenholme is one of the greatest bassists I've ever heard, and Dom Howard knows how to keep the beat whilst at the same time making something original and stylish. They're a cult in their own way, and a great band. The songs that originally turned me to these guys are:-

- Bliss
- Plug In Baby
- Sing For Absoultion
- Muscle Museum
- Feeling Good

That's it from me! :D

Children of Bodom
What's there to say? These guys are one of the best, melody wise and just plain rock, I can listen to them every day xD I think these guys are my current favourite band atm =P

Nightwish
It's these guys that got me into the whole metal genre, so I just can't leave them out, still possibly my favourite band or at least one of my favourite at least =P

Sonata Arctica
I really really don't know why I like these guys so much, their music is really brilliant, and they also on the sidenote write lovely lyrics as well, so I can't go wrong with these guys :P

DragonForce
Speed metal+Power Metal at its best? Possibly :P

{Insert another band here}
Yes, my 5th choice is open for change at the moment, so come back after a few weeks and we'll see :P

I can't really choose any 5... Among the bands that I listen to are Nirvana, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Slipknot, Nonity, MCR, Hawthorne Heights, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Eminem, Black Sabbath, the Offspring, All-American Rejects, ACDC, Thrice, Avenged Sevenfold, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, the Doors, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Switchfoot and many, many others.

I love all of these bands for there unique and not-so-unique styles. Some of them have pretty generic riffs, etc, but insane lyrics.

That's about it.

Oh jeezus! How to condense it all into 5 favourite bands?!

(P.S. I hope this site has unicode enabled, and you all have Shift_JIS character encoding :P Apologies if you don't, and all you see is question marks/garbage.)

Leaves' Eyes
Anyone familiar with the Northern Europe Gothic Metal scene will probably know of this band. Fronted by Liv Kristine, former Theatre of Tragedy singer, Leaves' Eyes is a beautiful melodic metal band which mixes opera-style singing, traditional grungy vocals, beautiful imagery, large-scale orchestra (They got the National Russian Orchestra working with them on their latest album!), wonderful harmonies etc. etc. Although they currently only have two albums, I await eagerly for any more that they produce.
Favourite Songs
Hard to pick, but I'll try to limit myself to just five:
# Norwegian Lovesong
# Farewell Proud Men
# Ocean's Way
# Into your Light
# Elegy

Within Temptation
Very similar in style to Leaves' Eyes, but with enough difference to warrent another slot in my hotly-debated top 5. This time from the Netherlands, Within Temptation are a Symphonic Metal band with Gothic Undertones. Singing with a beautiful voice, Within Temptation give me chills whenever I listen to them!
Favourite Songs
All of them, but if I were to recommend just five they would have to be:
# Ice Queen
# Deceiver of Fools
# See Who I am
# Stand My Ground
# Aquarius

アンティック珈琲店 (Antique Cafe)
And now for something completely different. AnCafe are an Oshare-kei band from Japan. They are light-hearted and upbeat, and always make me happy whenever I listen to them. Even if I can't understand a word of Japanese >_<
Favourite Songs
# Escapism
# NYAPPY in the world
# Wagamama Koushingyouku
# Candyholic
# Maple Gunman

Dir en Grey
Dir en Grey are an old (by J-Rock standards) Japanese Visual-kei band, which has more recently turned away from VK. They cannot really be catagorized under one genre, they have produced things ranging from rock ballads, heavy hitting aggressive songs, pop-style tracks, etc etc. Their range and consistency of good music has meant they are one of my favourite bands.
Favourite Songs
# Raison d'etre
# Cage
# Yokan
# Kodou
# Jessica

Kagrra,
Kagrra are unique, even by Japanese standards. They infuse traditional Japanese elements into Visual-kei, and even their costumes are traditional (I don't think I've ever seen anyone else perform in a Kimono!) Their lead singer, Isshi, also has a calming, soothing voice that always puts me in a good mood.
Favourite Songs
# 皐月 (Satsuki)
# 在りし日の微傷 (Arishi hi no Bishou)
# 誓ノ月 (Chikai no Tsuki)
# 春麗ら (Haru Urara)
# 闇に散りけり・・・ (Yami ni Chirikeri...)

Alas,my justified list which I shall create without even remembering what my previous list was.In order they are:

System Of A Down
-You call yourself a guy going/gone through adolescence and tell me that SOAD does not make your brain function?Their music is best described as the soundtracked of the average guy that is just even a little screwed.Musically speaking, call it steroid rock but it's just someone doing whatever they want (lying) with instruments. But they are not the Tom Dick and Harry that I'm sure you know.Yeah, they curse alot but after knowing all the music that I know (my name is MTV-Head) I put them on top.And in there honor I shall recite this phrase that will get people very offended at me and I just got here so I apoligise in advance."What do I say, what do I do.F--k you,it all goes away.I recommend the following songs:
-Cigaro(Mezmerize)
-Science(Toxicity)
-Shimmy(Toxicity)
-Sugar(Steal This Album)
-Aerials (Toxicity)
-Chop Suey! (Toxicity)
-Needles (Toxicity)
-Prison Song (Toxicity)
-Lonely Day (Hypnotize)

Thats band 1

Hideto
19-03-2006, 21:19
Ah man I REALLY can't decide between number 1 and number 2. so I think ill putthem both together.

1 'hide' (Hideto Matsumoto) - This guy really defines how life should be to me. Everything he did, every step he took he always seemed to do it with a smile. He was always there for his fans even donating his bone marrow to one of his fans in order for them to live and meeting with ill fans on many occasions. (This being one of them - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pw6MEi2Kr4s&search=hide%20sick%20fan) a very touching video I think you'll all agree. This man should be a role model for all of us who think we can never amount to anything, he was the fat kid at school bullied cause of his weight and he ended up as what could only be described as a sex symbol. This guy is my hero and i will deem my life a success if i can live half the life he has led and this is my tribute to him. Thank you 'hide' may your spirit rest in peace and winged angels fly you to your dreams. RIP

2 X Japan - This was the band that started the whole JRock obsession for me without them I would never have found a music that I truely love. They have a song 11 out of 10 times to match my mood seeing as they have melodic ballards, Heavy metal and even experimental (for the time). A real inspiration.

and after that to be honest i have to many bands at 3 4 and 5 so ill edit and write them all down later

Tharrick

Well, these are in no real order, because I just can't make up my mind

1) Metallica
The band that got me into metal in the first place! One of the Big Four of thrash metal (along with Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth), they've been through a lot to bring me my music - they've lost a bassist in a tour bus accident, and their long-term replacement recently left the band as well. But they're still going (although after their performance in St Anger, I wouldn't say 'going strong) and hopefully their new album will bring them back into the hearts of metal fans everywhere
Favourite tracks:
Fade to Black
Low Man's Lyric
Enter Sandman
Master of Puppets
Orion
Call of Ktulu

2) Dragonforce
Ah, British power metal at its finest. Featuring two of the worlds finest guitar soloists, the traditional vocal talents that are a staple of power metal, and quite possibly the scariest drum kit I've ever seen, these guys have only been around for a few years but seem set to be part of power metal history
Favourite tracks:
Soldiers of the Wasteland (featuring one of the greatest guitar solos I've heard)
Starfire

3)Edguy
Energetic, at times almost playful in their simplistic power metal style and often comic song, it takes a moment to realise just how skilled this German 'gay metal' (in their own words) band really are. But it's definitely worth the effort.
Favourite songs:
Superheroes
The Asylum

4 and 5 to come when I can be bothered :P

Well i'm not really into AFI so much anymore and they've dropped out of my Top 5 Bands, but still they're nethertheless one of my favourites (as in in Top 15/20? lol) and all. Though there is no doubt that the Chili Peppers will always remain at the top <3

1) Opeth: Simply awsome band, mixing death metal and progressive rock so seamlessy. Mikael Akerfeldt is a god, nuff said :P
2) Amon Amarth: Swedish viking war metal at it's best xD Melodic death metal, with mythological lyris, gotta love it <3
3)Black Sabbath: Do I really need to say anything? I mean, come on...
4)Nile: Crazy crazy Egyptian themed death metal... Anyone who says death metal is just simple smash your instrumets should listen to these guys, will prove you so wrong >.> Drummer is simply... amazing LISTEN TO THEM! >=O
5)Dark Tranquility: <3 Progressive death metal <3
