View Full Version : Grandia games
So who loves them? I own 1 and 2, I like 2 the most. Currently waiting for 3 to arrive.
I have owned them both, liked the first one alot. The second one however was a letdown.
They messed up the second game, effects, story, everything. Hopefully the third one will be better.

I think Grandia I is the best of the series. I just love the beginning of the game with Justin :p
Waits for Grandia III too, might be earlier released then FF12...
Grandia I is really great, nice story and characters and the beginning is one of a kind XD Grandia II is better though =P Characters were more alive, and I really liked the story in its own kind of way =P Millenia owns!

Alright the story was the best part of it but the rest was bad!
I mean you have to admit the graphics and magic effects were absolutly terrible! ;)
I haven't played I, but I tried to play II and just couldn't get into it.
I'm going to try III when it comes out, see what thats like. Grandia II just didn't do it for me...:(
I played the first one and i loved it, it was great but then my disk broke so I never got any further :( :( :(
I need to finish 1...I bought all good rpgs during the beginning of the ps2 age which was my first PS system....(already beaten G2 before)
I own both games, like them both, but my fave is II. :D Ryuudo is the funniest video game character ever (and Yuri, but that's another story :P).
The game made me laugh a lot. So light-hearted. ^^
I quite enjoyed both of them i thought the second was quite nice a time in the graphics department
I thought they were story-wise bloody brilliant. Graphic-wise for their time...also great. They had a unique battle system, as well as unique characters to make the game fun. If I were to rate it...It'd be a 9/10 :)
When does grandia 3 come out? Is it even the same system.

Hope it will be released soon, I can't wait...
I'm playing Grandia I again now, I'm at the Tower of Doom now, just fought against Milda.

Guys, IGN has already reviewed Grandia III, and they say the game isn't very promising...
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/687/687732p1.html
That's the lowest score I've ever seen for a Square game (except for their malarky games).
Heh, I just read through that and to be honest it didn't supprise me what they said.
As far as I'm concerned after the first Grandia the plot and characters just seemed to get worse, its no wonder that critised in the review. I also aint supprised it mentioned there being a lack of sidequests, seeing as I don't really think any of the games had very many.
It's a shame really, was hoping for something really good this time.

Only 25-30 hours to finish the game? That's even shorter then Grandia II. The first game took around 70 hours to finish it, the second around 40. So, that's one minor.
Grandia I and II didn't have many side quests indeed, only a few.
It's more the story and the battle system that I liked about the Grandia series.
Only 2 days left for North Americans, we Europeans still have to wait for a official release date...

I for one can't wait to get Grandia 3. Along with Tales of Legendia and Shadow Hearts: TNW. But further along is kh2, ffxii, and rogue galaxie

I own both Grandia 1 and 2. I don't have a favourite one...too hard to decide! Justin and Ryudo are both cool IMO, and the battle system is actually my favourite out of all the RPG series I've played. I really want to play Grandia 3 too, but I guess i'll have to wait and see if it gets released in PAL format...
Shadow hearts was great... Though you need to let me play grandia... if it's that great BMD! oh and I wont forget to bring the disk on monday!

I'm also still waiting untill Grandia III will be released here, but I think the chance is small, since Square cancelled the release here (which GameArts won't do)...
Meh, playing Grandia II now for the 2nd time.

That's a shame. I don't like the way that if games don't sell very well in Japan, America, etc....they will never be released in Europe. They should at least give us a chance....
I might actually start a new game again on Grandia 1. I haven't played that for awhile.

I enjoyed the first one, it was a nice little fun game but Grandia II was utter crap, I hope the third one will be better when I finally get round to buying it(if its even out yet)

I never played the Grandia series but I heard it was a great RPG game. So I was wondering if I should but it or not. I know they have three games and I saw the second and third in stores. Should I buy it? Is it a great game? Tell me....
Zidane007nl

You should buy the second one for sure, it has a good story and if you never experienced the battle system, you should really try it. I can't tell you anything about the 3rd game, because of SE not releasing it in Europe.
You also have Grandia Xtreme, but I heard bad things about it...

I do have Grandia II for both the PS2 (cost £12.99) and the PC (cost £0.50p) and I must say the PC version is much better, the PS2 version has a lot of Lag and slowdown which causes it to be a big disappointment, the story and battle-system is great though.

The PS2 version has indeed some problems, especially with sound effects... But still it was a good game to play. Never played the PC version though.
~~~ Grandia: Loved this game. It had the sort of graphics I like for RPGs, and the towns were just huge, meaning exploration and conversing with NPCs seemed to take forever. That's a good thing in my books, meaning the designers didn't skip on anything. Some of the battles were a little too easy, and the bosses weren't overly mighty, but a decent game nonetheless.
~~~ Grandia II: Played this on my PS2, and thought it had some nice improvements over an already great game. Don't know much about the PC version, but I think I'd prefer to play the title on my 109cm LCD screen with surround sound any day. I won't get into the Dreamcast version; there's just no point.
~~~ Grandia Xtreme: Eh, well I haven't really had the chance to play into this. I know a lot of people despise it and thought it ruined the series forever (wrong.) but I'll try and form my own opinions. I can bet it won't be better than its predecessor, but I don't mind. Too many format changes I suppose.
~~~ Grandia III: I was mighty impressed when I first heard about this game many, many months ago. I have it in my collection, but alas I have dozens of other fine RPGs to get through first before I can put a dent in this title. The music sounds excellent, and I'm pleased the Grandia series continues!
~~~ Untranslated Grandia Titles: Well, I'd be interested in playing these if decent translations were released, but I don't see it happening. No translation team (unofficial) has put any effort into it, so I guess I can't offer any comments.
~~~ Grandia IV: Yes please. If we must wait for the PS3 (a viable outcome) then so be it. Get to work, chaps.

Did anyone finished all the three bonus dungeons in Grandia I? I only one (Soldiers Graveyard) at my first save game. I had no trouble with the enemies there, but the boss there is annoying, since he restores HP every time. I've found the Castle of Dreams now too, but in the first fight there I died. :(
Think I'm too weak. Justin is at level 26 and my magic isn't really strong yet. I think I'll advance in the story first. I'm on the way to Laine now.
you will like killing giya he is nasty and tuff and you heve to kill him 3 times.
I completed justen and sue but fenna is killing me here magic lv 2 and 3 are dun but magic lv 1 isnt esay the wind AND the water are to be at lv 99!!!!

I already finished the game once, and I thought Gaia wasn't too hard to kill, since it only had 9,999 HP.
One of the best things I like about the game is its soundtrack. It's awesome! I'm listening to it atm. :D
I own the second Grandia for the PC. But since my computer is pretty old, the game crashes when a character casts magic sometimes. Anyway, I've went halfway through the game, but my computer had to be reformatted before I had time to know what will happen next, but I didn't install it again after that. The game was pretty awesome...
...but my fave is II. :D Ryuudo is the funniest video game character ever
...and I'd agree with you, Mirae. Ryudo is funny, but sometimes annoys others.
Well i used to have 2 and 3, and I must say they are good games, but to me, they just seemed easy.

I can't continue with Grandia. ;( ;(
I'm at Alent now and just met with Liete. And then at the beginning of the fmv where they return to Earth, the movie get stuck and the sound keeps repeating. Previous time I was at that point I used my PSone to got past it, but now no luck. :(
I know its because of a big scratch on the disc. It happened like 5 years ago when I lent the game to someone...
FINALLY! A GRANDIA BOARD! Bless you person!!! I play Grandia II! I am looking for Roms for it. I play it on my ps2. Im really far in the game aswell!
Sadly, Its not very active at this precise moment =(

Roms? If you have it on the PlayStation 2 why do you need the rom?
And the Grandia series isn't so well known as the Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts series. But still its a great series. :cool:

Same as me (read few posts above where). Luckily I have a friend who've bought the game like me, so I did the part in Alent with his game and now I can continue with the game.
I just did the first side dungeon, Soldier's Graveyard. I was level 33 with Justin and the boss there was really easy now. Found some really good items there (like the Energy Charm, which halves SP usage for moves). Gonna do the Castle of Dreams next.
I own Grandia II, Grandia Xtreme, and Grandia III for the PS2. I didn't like Xtreme much.. :(
But I loved 2 & 3.... Three has one of the best turn-based battle systems in the rpg world..
And the music was great.. Miz Rock - In the Sky!

Okay, I've finished the first 2 side dungeons in Grandia (Castle of Dreams and Soldier's Graveyard) and now I can access the third one (Tower of Temptation). I red it is a long dungeon with annoying enemies. Did anyone complete this one?
VertigoStriker
05-07-2007, 19:46
Yeah I've completed all of the extra dungeons in Grandia.
The Tower of Temptation took me ages, mostly because there is no save point anywhere inside the whole tower. So you have to really think about what you are doing in the fights. You don't want to waste much if any of your items climbing up to the top.
Especially since there are two, maybe three, bosses. I can't remember exactly how many since it has been years since I played this game.
anyone a fan of the grandia series? I got into it when I first started to wander into the world of RPGs, and i was instantly hooked on Grandia for the PS1.
the storyline is absolutely fantastic, the battle system is fresh and new, and the characters are like little kids XD except Guido <3 He's a super cool bunny man.
just wondered if anyone else had the privelige of playing these amazing games.

Well, Grandia II has a good plot too and it is a really a must to play. I don't know of Grandia III, but I heard Grandia Xtreme was not so good.
^ sorry there lol, didn't think to look in the SE section.

Grandia II has an alright plot, but I find that Grandia I is the best of the series, it's storyline is great, the characters all have their own personalities and strengths, and Feeeeeeena <3

yeah thats what i was afraid of, but its hard to expect a game to be as complete as the first Grandia. if it had allowed me to travel the entire world after getting to the final boss, it might have become one of my favorite games ever.
And who is awaiting a Grandia 4? I have high hopes for next-gen installments in old series.

Well, I am. I hope they will continue the series on the PlayStation 3. If the game is developed SE should also release it here in Europe.
Death Penalty, did you complete the Tower of Temptation, one of the side quest dungeons?

I have 1 and 2, and I think 1 is best when it comes to atmosphere and stuff, but 2 has its good parts. I completed 2 and nearly have 1 completed. Again, the final boss is proving to be a challenge, but I'll make it some day, when I feel lucky.:P
