I want one damnit. Like i'd prefer one of those tiny MP3's that I have now, but the only thing is they usually only fit 256 MB or 512 MB (like mine does now) which not NEARLY enough room for all the songs I would wanna fit on it. That I wouldn't mind getting like one of those MP3's, not as small, but still small, which use memory cards =D But if I had a load of cash to spend, i'd definately get one of these. Though it may be a bit too long for my linking (as in it's length), but still I want one, but it's like around $300 approx. (converted it into AUS dollars) The only main reason I want an iPod is cause like they've got alot of room (sure so do other MP3's, but then i'd have to actually look for them) and look nice, xD. Anyway, what are your opinons on it?

I prefer Creative's range of MP3 players, myself. They're cheaper, and yet better, higher quality, and have longer battery lives.

What do you mean by "high quality"? Well... I don't have a Creative MP3... just some Omni one that was around $100 or so (that'd be pretty cheap if you converted it into pounds) and well... it doesn't have a very long battery life - only 6 - 8 hours... which gets really annoying.

Well, my Zen Touch plays exactly the same type of files as an iPod, the construction is better, the battery life is 24-26 hours on a single charge, plus, it's £50 cheaper, for the same memory (20 gigs)
My mp3 player isn't a harddisk thing, so if I drop it (and I already have loads of times) there's no risk of losing data, only thing is its only 1gb, but has a slot for SD cards, so I can have unlimited space really. I likes it, apart from I fill 1gb in less than half an hour...
haha, I'm actually considering getting an ipod nano... they are pretty sweet after all, and small too.

Mine IS a hard disk, unfortunately, but it's taken a fair battering and I've not lost any data yet
my current mp3 player is an RCA Lyra.... a peice o poo lol

They're soo cute! I'd want one but I just got a 60GB iPOD Photo from my college so I'm happy with that. Much nicer size than those other smaller MP3 players. I personaly think they should have a memory card system. Lyra MP3 players can take SD memory cards, it would be a wonderfull way to organize your music and be able to save space.
I read this article where the dude tested his iPod Nano to see how sturdy and strong it was and I must say it's pretty strong. Though of course the article could of been quite wrong (there were pictures =O But no vids, lol), also I'll edit this post later or something if I find it again. Anyway, the guy tried dropping it while running and dropping it while driving (at two different speeds). So far it was still working, but obviously the surface of the Nano was scratched and stuff pretty badly. He also tried dropping it from different heights (tallest was lifiting it above his head) and well the screen broke and stuff, but it was still working (as in you could still hear music). Lastly the dude basically ran over it slowly with both one front wheel and one back wheel, the screen was like f*cked up and everything but there still was some music O_o
Have you seen the STATE of them?!
In my opinion they are silly! They look plasticy...like you got them out of a cereal!!! I've never been a fan of ipods and that jazz, so thats probably it.
I'll make an mp3 player outta a cardboard box instead. :p
I've never been a fan either, because they are really just a fashion item that doesn't function properly, there's so many faults with them, recently the battery fault has been on the news and stuff...
and the harddisk breaks easily if dropped / shaken etc.
Chris, all hard disks break easily if dropped or shaken. ESPECIALLY if they're running at the time.
Thats why some new laptops actually have motiond etectors in them, so incase they are suddenly dropped the hard disk is locked up and it won't be damaged.

No it's not. Fashion? I'm emberrased of mine, I wouldn't listen to it in public or anything, Mine's mainly for data storage. But they're sturdier then you think! I was setting up my gardenwhile listeining to my iPOD and I didn't know I dropped it and I liad a 7Lb brick over it! And it works fine. And I dunno which MP3 player's battery fault you're talking about but the Battery in my iPOD lasts quite a bit longer than ANY portable CD player I've ever had. iPOD's are more durable than those Tiny Lyra MP3 Players and WAY more durable than portable CD, you just THINK about a portable CD player breaking and the door magically snaps off! loll
But I'd have to say the most durable MP3 player I've seen is the RIO nitrus. It's about ½ the size of an iPOD and very dense. I let mine roll around with a 2 LB quarts crystal in my backpack for a year and aside from th ecrazy looking scrateh it was just fine. It's compact design made it much more shock resistant, I dropped that thing from a full story and it still worked. Unfortunatly the maximum size is like 1.5 GB (Which ain't bad) And the power cord (like many things) is UNIQUE, so if you lose it there's NO generic match.
Smaller MP3 players like the Lyra and Movo are more conveinient but break like noting. You step on them and they're gone. The movo doubles as a ASB flash drive, which is nice, but this means there are harsh size restrictions and they use AAA batteries which bites.
Overall I approve of the iPOD, I give it an 7.5 out of 10.
-1 for being made by apple (ICKY!)
-1.5 for lack of folder organization*
*Despite being a hard disk the iPOD doesn't actually access it's songs/pictures like a hard disk! You can create folders/files on an iPOD through your PC but you can't access them from the iPOD, you have to use the iPOD's special formated folders that it's designed to pull data from. This is sort of inconvenient. iPODs should be able to access any folder that's created on their HD. It'd be better for organization because you don't always want to organize music by artist etc. and making playlists is a shitty substitute for being able to seperate music into folders.
Well Sixy, over in the UK (or at least where I'm from) they are this fashion thing. Everyone in my old 6th form used to be like; "oh my god, I've got a pink ipod!" "Wow! Me too!" "It's sooo cool!!" "Mine's pink!" "We have ipods, so we rock!!" ¬_¬
And they REALLY..REALLY don't. They're so...Chunky and retarded! >.< I'm sick of seeing people with them, and specifically buying or wanting them to fit in or so they can be cool. Fair enough if you actually used them for something worthwhile, or wanted one because you did, (in which my opinion you'd be silly.) but there you go! I suppose it does all come down to personal taste, and mine.. says the ipod/inano/ishuffle/iblah is horrid.
I do agree with the more durable stuff, but if you are going to step on an mp3 player, you're a silly fool and shouldnt have one to begin with!

I'd rather have a normal iPod didn't read all the posts, so forgive me if someone already said this but apparently they don't hold as much as normal iPods. Etheir way, screw iPods, i want a psp instead, but that's a differnet thread lol if i had a choice between ipod nano, normal ipod or any other mp3 player, i'd probably pick ipod.
They hold 4gb
thats 3800 songs
for about the third of the price, maybe less than a third of the price

After say a year of constant use the iPod battery will "fail". the battery won't charge, this is something the good people at Apple didn't tell anyone when they were releasing it. Now people have had to send their iPods to Aple and pay $100 to get a new battery fitted into it.

i have never a ipot before. I have my own MP3 player. its smart en he need one battery. I have a MP3 player whit 125 MB memory. And that enough to but 40 a 50 singels in that. I lissen to Rammstein and linkin park :).
They hold 4gb
thats 3800 songs
for about the third of the price, maybe less than a third of the price
3800 songs of usually the lowest quality, its a selling technique, in reality if you have songs at the nice high qualities so they actually sound decent then it'll be more like 1000 songs...

Hmm, perhaps it's the type of battery. I'm guessing they're using low quality lithium batteries or NiCa. The nickle ones are the older types, they'll slowly lose power and you have to drain them all the way and then recharge them, they'r eprone to the "memory problem".
Some of the older Lithium type batterys are actually temperature sensetive. They work best at somewhere around 30 F (0-4 C). And if they get hot they will actually lose energy.
I read a bunch of info on batteries one day out of bordum.
ANyway, if you pay for the exteneded warenty when you buy yours ($50) it will actually cover coast of the battery and it lasts 2 years so you'll save yourself $50 I suppose.

No it's usually based on 128 KB/sec which is okay quality if you're not anal. However the iPOD nano advertized that it holds 1000 songs (I JUST saw a commercial. loll)

eeeeeeeerrr..
okay...okay. Understood, I just thought you were a teenager and I thought Switzerland had mandetory English like Germany.
Anyway, I dunno what kind you have maybe it's a Europen brand.
I don't see how iPods are chunky, just very long lol. And look I like my tiny MP3 (which is like a small brick, xD) and everything but it only holds 512 MB which is like nothing... I can only fit like 120 songs. Though most are like average - high quality, xP. I think majority of people who don't like iPods is because they get advertised everywhere and might be somewhat "overrated". But still... just cause everyone gets them doesn't mean they're sh*t o_o I would prefer an iPod (Mini... MAYBE Nano. Normal is too big and like I don't need that much room) over my current MP3, though only cause it's like... only got a bit of room and stuff. Heck, i'll just get one of those cool-looking iRivers which are similar shape to iPods, lol.

1365 at 3 MBs a song
who seriously needs THAT much space anyways?
IMO iPod Nano = cool
Some MP3 players may be cheaper than iPods, but the extra your paying for is the Apple quality. yeah now adays Apple Macs suck ass, because they are way too limited to what you can use on or with them. but apple have had the iPod out for what around a year or 2, and they work great. where as your slightly cheaper model might break down quicker than an iPod.
The only bad thing about iPods is the silver metallic bottoms on them YOU CANT GET THE THINGS CLEAN!!!
