Okay well this is my first tut so i decided to make an easy one this is mainly for beginners but i just need feedback on it.

1.Ok first open an image you wish to turn black and white. Here is the image i chose http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/ucgangsta12/tut/sanosuketut.jpg

2.Okay now Make a new document (Ctrl+N) the same size as the image you selected.

3.Now on that new document created use the paint bucket tool to fill in the background black

4.Now using the rectangular marquee tool select the whole black background you made

5.Paste that on top of your image

6.Then go to your layers pallet (press F7 to make it appear) change from normal to saturation

You could just use Image --> Mode --> Grayscale.

You could just use Image --> Mode --> Grayscale.
Yeah, lol. That's what I was going to say. But what if you only wanna make a part of the image black and white? =P

or press Ctrl + Alt + U and it will desaturise it, same thing.

It's a shame that you can't make individual layers in photoshop greyscale while others are RGB, but you CAN copy the part you want into another document, make it greyscale there, and then copy it back.

Too much effort, if you ask me. If I want something in greyscale, I'll draw it in greyscale.

no

there is a way

Highlight the layer you want to make Greysacle and press Ctrl + Alt + U and it will make only that layer Greyscale, the other ones will remain saturised.

a-hah! Now, if I ever actually used greyscale, that'd be really handy :P But even my black-and-white stuff's done in RGB

Use photobucket, it's the best!
