HYDERABAD, India (Reuters) - A professor of English in southern India loved his mother so much that he lived with her corpse for 20 years. When he died, the pair were laid to rest in the same grave. Syed Abdul Gafoor's mother died in 1985, but he refused to bury her, authorities said

Instead, he preserved her body with chemicals and kept it at home in a glass case, causing his wife to leave him and sparking a social boycott in Siddavatta village in Andhra Pradesh state.

"He kept the body intact and lived in isolation till he died on Saturday " district administrator Ashok Kumar told Reuters.

Gafoor, 60, was buried along with his mother in a single grave near the village mosque according to his last wish, Kumar said.
Uh, I dunno if this is disturbing or not...

I know the love of a child for their parents is strong, and I don't know what I'm gonna do when my mum dies... but, I myself wouldn't live with her corpse on display in my house for 20 years.

I feel sorry for the guy, I really do - his mum dying and all. The poor man mustn't have been able to let her go that easily.

What do you think about the article?

[edit] I thought I'd written more than this... took ages to think of stuff to write... O_o

Thought provoking indeed. Don't make me answer the "What are you going to do when your mother dies?" question because that's just something I don't want to ever think about til it happens, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I gather he was very lonely when his mother died, perhaps she was the only person he ever felt close to, even being close to her dead body made him more comfortable than being with his still alive wife. I figure he was probably a single child with no father figure in his life and he had no one else but her for so many years.

Fair enough he loved his mother but I personally wouldn't keep mine on display for 20 years...nor would I want to be buried in the same grave as her. That's almost sickening the idea of being THAT close to your mother. Fair enough, you can love your parents but really...that's like stalking them whilst they're dead. It's just wrong.

It must have been awful for him having his Mother die but to keep a dead body for 20 years and then be buried with it...I'm starting to wonder if that guy was sane.

I love my mother to but I wouldn't live with her corpse at all let alone 20 years. There was probably a reason for why he did it, although If he had a wife then I don't know why he would be lonely.

I'm inclined to agree with everyone else - I love my parents like crazy, even if my childish unconditional love is wearing thin now - I still love them. But seriously... 20 years? I'm slightly disturbed by that, I don't even like seeing pickled animals in jars - but a human body? Much more someone you love? Da-amn, that's a bit far over my borders of sanity and into disturbed. Slightly sympathetic to him, but not much. But then again, reading through it, western cultures would be totally different to those acceptible in India, so maybe it's slightly less weird over there then I consider it myself, seeing as western cultures tend to live in much more nuclear families, with only a few close family members living in the same house, whereas other countries seem to focus more on very close relationships between large and extended families... eh. Off track, sorry.

But anyay, personally? I find that somewhat disturbing for the above mentioned reason, that I would hate to see a loved one, every day for 20 years in a jar like a pickled onion, and probably after that long she might start looking like one too >_>;;

This reminds me of this one story I saw on tv... Guy has his dead wife preserved in a glass like coffin he uses as a coffe table type thing, just... weird. No clue what posses people to do that kinda stuff, just...odd o_O

Its not just philosophy, more psychology really, the guy obviously couldn't bear to let go of his mum... ahhh its Dale's subject, not mine! :P

Or if he was smart enough to inject her with chemicals and put her on display, she could have been his lab partner.

I don't know why but I think it's really sweet, he isnt disturbing her slumber by not putting her in a grave, all he's done is just made it so she doesnt um..become a skelaton? I know I wouldn't do this (cause my mum is in a grave at this very moment XD) but yeah, I kinda feel sorry for the guy and find it sweet in an odd way, i'm not disturbed by it. We all tick in different ways and the guy obviously didnt want his mother in a grave rotting or even being burnt to ashes.

Chris

In the end they both ended up in a grave though... so wasn't he really just... delaying it?

But then, he doesnt have the thought of his mum in a grave rotting or her ashes being somewhere..iono, its confusing i'd rather have ashes then a body >__>

I figure he was probably a single child with no father figure in his life and he had no one else but her for so many years.Øyh, thats me! XD
Seriously though, I have never had a dad nor have I had an abundant amount of friends. Hell I even lived with my mom in an apartment of 35 square meters for 12 years.
But I still can't wait to move out :D

Chris

*Tries to imagine how big 35 sq metres is*

I wonder if the guy did have a dad... well he obviously did, but I mean did he know him? Maybe thats why he's so attached to his mum.

I've heard of more disturbing cases than this....for example the first ever Necrophiliac...he was called Paul, and he was rejected from society, he didn't have a girlfriend, didnt have any friends actually. He went to the graveyard to see his dad's grave and discovered the "joy" of dead girls. Hence he found a way of releasing his sexual tension. Thus creating the saying "Dead girls don't say no". When his mother died, he preserved her body and raped it...he also dug up dead girls and made himself a costume. He dressed up like a girl, by fitting inside a dead girls skin.
Its all true...he then got caught and thrown in prison....If i had dates etc. id give them to you, im sorry i dont XD

Going back to the other guy, it could be psychological...however he had a wife before he preserved his mother. Perhaps he couldnt handle death, and that was the only way he could find of accepting it....meh ^^

It's awful, I'm so speechless........@_@

And as for the first necro, there was CAVE man necros. Well, maybe not. But a long LONG time ago, centuries or whatever, and it's not as if they would hand out his name.... If anything, he would have been the first caught one, IF that. It's unbelievable how many crimes like that take place and are not caught. >.< Makes me SICK and angry. But I do feel pity for the man and his mother, he obviously had serious problems. :(

Kai Hiwatari

I guess you're right, my mistake XD...he was the first KNOWN necro ^^''.....
and lei i agree it IS scary...imagine that, being raped when you die.........

13-10-2005, 02:06
Dear God, that necro guy was sick. I don't mean to sound tasteless here, but have they made a movie of that? Because they always tend to make movies of things like that, and it would be interesting to watch and I don't mean that in a sick way but...that is absoultely unbelieveable. I personally couldn't live with myself if I did that, but then again...I guess I'm not rejecting from society OR have psychological problems, so ya know.

Lei
13-10-2005, 11:32
I've seen a couple of movies with necros in. House of 1000 corpses...Directed/Made by Rob Zombie. That's got a necro or two in it. Terrifying, it's REALLY odd.

Put yourself in their shoes...feeling as if no-one loves you, finding secruity and a sort of faithfull ness in adead girl, and having as many as you want. It would kinda boost their ego.....twisted as though it may be, that is the only place they can find their sactuary, their safety...i mean, a dead girl cant say no, cant run off with another guy, cant disagree with anythong you say....
I guess they would see it as a sort of sex toy, but more realistic......

Dale Anthony
13-10-2005, 12:15
Yeah, I've seen that. Got it on DVD and it's fair to say, it's one of the sickest and worst horror movies ever lol.

The soundtrack is alright.......HE is a CRAP director lol.

But on topic, necros in anyway are always sick-minded people.

13-10-2005, 13:38
So are you saying it's justified? I hardly think so. It's nothing to do with not being loved, they just get a kick out of it. I used to know someone like that, he was just an average guy. Probably just one of those double life things. If they think they're so unloved then why would they dig up people. Sex toy is about as close as it would get though. But they could just be a lot less sick-minded and sleep with prostitutes. I don't feel sorry for those people in any way, they're just sick.

Dale Anthony
13-10-2005, 23:20
Thanks for backing me up there Midi.

This guy might have been attached to his mother but in no way should he keep her "unrested" body preserved. You'd think she'd want that? Did he care? No...he cared more about what he wanted. That was to stay with her.

So more or less, yes...what he did was more sick than "justified".

Kai Hiwatari
14-10-2005, 14:23
I didn't mean to imply that it was justified,im sorry ^^''
what i meant was if you put yourself in their shoes think what it would be like.....to be that twisted, to have that sick a mind...it really creeps me out.....
there is no way a necro's actions could bre justified, it really is just sick...and im sorry you guys misinterpreted me otherwis...v.v''....
