Advent Children sales doing well

Yesterday Square-Enix has announced that its CG movie sequel Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has recorded sales exceeding 700,000 copies in Japan since its September 14th release.According to the company, the limited edition DVD Box and the first print limited edition have both sold out completely. While it did not provide any numbers, it also revealed that the UMD version of the movie was very popular as well.

Producer Shinji Hashimoto was pleased with the results, saying after the success in Japan, the expectations for the upcoming releases in North America and Europe were very high. The succcess in Japan would also encourage Square Enix to aim even higher in the future.

The movie's popularity has also been evident in Tokyo, as this editor found in late September. Despite having already been available for two weeks, the DVD version was sold out in Yodobashi Camera's main store in Shinjuku as well as the HMV Shibuya store.

its all well in SE saying they have had good sales, but how much has the leaked fansub hurt their NTSC & PAL releases of the movie?

Stop bitching about the fecking fansub already. It's already generally accepted that leaked fansubs actually increase the profits once something's finally released over this end. That's why several jap animation studios encourage fansubs, because they actually get word and news of their anime series out into countries where they're not yet commercially available, increasing their market of potential customers.

tharrick, i never bitched about the fansub. i just wondered how many sales SE would lose out on. ive seen the fan sub, but im not going to pay for the movie, why should i? it was no where near enjoyable.

Then just shut the hell up about it. I'm sick of hearing about this from everywhere I go, 'Oh noes, the evil fansubbers are damaging Square's sales!' 'Oh noes, Square have lost out on so many sales!'
EVERY DAMNED FORUM I go on, I get the same shit, even the ones with a high fansubber population.

But when I read one about how the sales are doing well, I don't expect to see bitching about loss of revenue in areas where it's not even available yet.

I'm pretty sure it will sell well over here, regardless of the leak. There are tons of FF7 fans in NA and Europe, and even if the fansub versions hurt the sales, it won't be anything strong enough to hurt Square overall.
